Solo Melee against Fader ...Edit The Green flame has been extinguished.
Is it possible to beat Fader Solo Melee without being a gaming Super Star?
I've seen a few videos. The players that are able to beat Fader Solo Melee build are...Internet gaming Super Stars. I get him down to half then that's it. It's like he gets a buff halfway through and the spikes get bonkers. Impossible to get close for damaging and honestly feels broken for heavy build. I don't have the luxury of raising the ground around the spawn as it's right beside lava on two sides.
(Best Armour, (maxed Flamental/Ashen cape two sets) Best Food, Bone Mass, Several armour sets at the ready, Nidhogg the Thundering, fully rested, witches potions. ) Devs, please, don't forget some people don't want to skip about in their underwear with staffs and bubbles during this fight. We spent our time on swords and shields. Life is never perfect in Valheim, but all builds should be able to defeat Fader, not just magic users.

Ok, so im not sure when i need to kill this guy, but i have started a melee. :steammocking:
Im doing Hammer/Sword/Shield"Bow.
Just started Swamp.

Is playing a mage really an option or do i need to mod to play a mage?
Or maybe Archer will do it?
Or maybe its not a problem for me on only hard difficulty.

Sorry for questions.
Im a noob.

You have a long way to go before Fader. It's end game. Mage gear is still 3 biomes on for you. Lot's of time. I actually have staffs and a bubble but because I'm heavy build I haven't had the hours needed to level the Magic.

Maybe i'll get some game changing info here, or maybe they'll buff melee for this fight before Deep North drops. In the meantime Stalker2 coming next few days I'll have other things to squeal about for a while. lol

I wouldn't buy stalker2 in a couple weeks yet.
I'm sure it will be quite a few bugs.
Let them patch it up first.
That is my policy anyway, or wait until it gets on 50% discount in a couple of years :steammocking:

I only did it melee on my first playthrough, with the same setup that you have (-witches potions). Probably not the optimal may to beat him, and I counted 7 deaths, a few of them were from corpse runs. Not sure that I have any advice, other than being patient, and waiting for openings. Although I did the opposite after my first death, and started yoloing more, as dying again within the 10-minute window meant no further skill loss.

I'm thinking that the berserker mead combined with bonemass could be pretty effective, although I haven't tried it out yet.

Talking of mead combinations.... add a ratatosk, to make it easier to escape from the spikes.
As far as I can tell you need to run away as soon as he does those large green circles. No chance to escape if you run too late. Especially with a heavy build.

You could of course try berserkir mead + bonemass and maybe try switching to light armor + Ashen Cape for this fight. In that combination your attacks and blocks won't cost stamina and you have more for running away.
What I don't actually know are these two things:
- if you can dodge-roll the last piece of the spikes if necessary
- if the set bonus of the heavy armor is of any help with the spikes (i.e. if the spikes are just a clone of the lava)

That said... even on lowest difficulty you might have to return home to repair your weapon in this fight. Because it just doen't last.

Thanks Drac I've tried all of that so far. Ratatosk, lingering stam, barley mead, lightfoot, bonemass, running from the spikes. Clearing the area first, starting at dawn, resting .. guess I'm just not that good yet lol. Kinda frustrating to still ne a noob after 1700 game days!
It's kind of interesting that I can get the boss down to half in around ten/15 minutes, keep him there until I get bonemass back and rest (not sleep), and then get absolutely crushed on the second go, Reeee!

All of his attacks except one do pierce or fire damage, and the only one that doesn't does only 40 blunt.
So don't bother with flametal chest, root harnesk is where it's at for this fight.

Yes I have one of them there Root harnesks. I will try that and get back to you! Thanks!
*Just one quick question. Isn't Root bad against fire? Or maybe Barley mead negates that enough?

Ya (with root) same thing. Get him easily down to half the first go (thinking "Hey this is not so bad!" then it's like I can't get in to damage him because of the uptick in Spike attacks. (Four deaths, four separate sets of good armour. Coming in prepped. Oh well thanks anyways :)
*Time to grind magic I guess. :)

Im a noob.

1. Fader is the current last boss in development but there likely will be another one in the North once its released.

2. You can be a mage archer melee or as you wish. Mage though comes a little later in game as a play option. Everything has a skill association with it that determines the effectiveness of em, but some skills can take an extremely long time to level up to close to max, and without mods, if you die, you lose skill points as well. Sliders in difficulty of course help mitigate things otherwise with regards to the world modifiers.

It is of course a survival game.

Also you can opt to play where you kill bosses without using those combat skills. Tames, spikes, campfires, and other methods have been employed by people to take down bosses especially in speed runs.

3. Lots of vids and guides on play as others have also suggested.

Like you, I've only watched the superstars take Fader in melee. I've stuck with mage builds and recently had a warrior build that took Fader in beastmaster mode with about 100 1-star asksvin. After that, plenty of asksvin tails for the new Ashlands feast ....

I'm sorry but if the spawn has too much lava around, you should check out another spawn. I think there's 3

Got him down to 1/5th as I type folks.. It might be happening..
