Why are their so many sea serpents in ocean after the update?
Can someone explain what it is with the sea serpent? After the update it suddenly became so frequent. I had around eight to ten sea serpents on a medium trip. Before the update, I only saw three in my whole gameplay before reaching the Mistlands.

My Karve almost sunk a couple of times. One took a run for it after a couple of arrows, four ignored me. One took a run for it when all swamp creatures attacked, when I took cover. I could shake off two off them by sailing in the Black Forest. One I killed successful, off course most of the rewards sunk to the bottom of the ocean. The weirdest of all they even attack while the sun is high in the sky.

I've got an island base, so sailing is important. This even beat the most scary moment when I first saw a troll. I hope someone can say what happened, because of the insane spam rate the ocean becomes more stressful.

the only thing that sinks when a ship breaks is the nails and the pelts. the rest swims. and anything within the cargo is stored inside floating boxes which enemies ignore normally.

but if you got 10 iron already you should have a better ship than karve already.

killing serpents is a waste of time until you get the iron cooking stations and the cauldron upgrade. then its 100% best hp food till mistlands. so more serpents is actually good food wise.

i havent seen more serpents than normally when sailing to the ashlands. still only during night or during storms.

I'm assuming you mean the regular Sea Serpents, not the new Bonemaw Serpent found in the Ashlands. It may be that the Devs decided to dial up the spawn rate of regular serpents as part of the release, though I haven't really noticed any new regular serpents yet when sailing around outside the Ashlands.

Also, if you haven't played in a while, there were several rounds of changes to regular serpent spawning when Mistlands came out and in the months afterwards. At first they really dialed up the regular serpent spawns, like suddenly they were everywhere all the time. But then they rapidly toned them back. They did a bit of tweaking to the conditions that would cause a regular serpent to spawn and ended up with making it fairly heavily controlled by weather and time of day. The end result was Daytime spawns went to not very common, and both nighttime and rainy weather dramatically increased spawn potential. Nighttime pretty much guaranteed a regular serpent would be there if it was a designated spawn location node and rainy conditions would make it fairly likely that one would be there during the day. But if the weather was nice, one could pass that same location in daytime and not see a serpent.

serpents could NEVER spawn during day. never. the only way you can encounter a day serpent is if it got spawned during a storm and not killed. these stick around until they are killed by the player. thier spawnchance is the same regardless. same rate during storm as during nighttime. both together to not increase spawn odds.

they also didnt make any changes to serpent spawning during mistlands at all. serpents where not touched at all since a good while before mistlands.

The serpents are suddenly gone. And the sunshine was after a storm, the serpent didn't despawn probably.
The karve has a maneuverability advantage, this makes it better for exploring. The better ships have problem with rocks in the sea and smaller accessible area's. Sometimes a small passage can be found, so you don't need to go around.

the karve is slower than a longship and has way less storage. plus it had way less health aswell. the karves advantages just arent there compared. you can explore just fine with a longship once you learn to not try to TURN the ship but instead drive backwards to control its course.

storm spawned serpents do never despawn. they stick around until killed. i explained that this is the reason there is still players even nowadays who believe they can spawn at daytime during non storms. yet they cannot do that at all.

I'll admit in my solo world, playing up through the mistlands, to date I have not seen a single serpent on my world. I know the buggers are out there somewhere but to be fair, I also hadn't really bothered looking for them. I had really been hoping to get a serpent scale shield once I started getting iron but that never really came about.

It might also align with my general disdain for sailing; I just want to get boots on the ground as soon as possible so I can continue my warpath so I typically spend as little time as possible in a boat.

if you don't want to fight serpents for any reason, just evade. they're not that fast and stop pursuing after like 30 sec
