Question about the "no map" setting...

If I were to change the setting mid play through to "maps allowed" will the game show all previously explored areas or just start showing areas explored from that point forward?

Yes. It still tracks where you've been even with the map turned off.

Yes, all points of interest, such as bosses, are also revealed if you've found them too.

I played no map, no portals until after Moder. After that, it just became too much to remember an entire world even with Yggdrasil as a navigation guide. I have no regrets, no map is a great way to start a play though, turn it off as a reward when you feel you've really earned it.
