Incompatible version error
Is there a way to tell what version a dedi has on it when you can't get logged in? Since Valheim does a download ever time I start the game I can't tell for sure when it actually gets a patch. I hadn't played for a couple of days. I go to start the game up on my dedi server and run an update just in case. It does a download and when I go to connect I am getting an incompatible version error. I verified my files on my client side and I have ran the update again on the dedi but it will not go away.

Clear your download cache. It sounds like a bugged bit in there, if you're constantly getting downloads every time you open the game.

Dedicated server is currently by default using the "public test" version for some reason.
You have to use password "yesimadebackups" then pick the "public-test" branch.

Will public test branch get the stable version? I did figure out it was the public test by upgrading my client (PC) to that branch after I posted this yesterday. I just couldn't find this message to add any thing to it since it was moved and the search wasn't finding it. Thanks for replying to let me know it wasn't something broken on my end and also it let me find this post after it was moved.

There were no general problem with dedicated server app on PTB version (0.217.16) compared to live version (0.217.15). You most likely have an issue related to installation. Check which version of the game is your dedicated server running by checking the server log files, while it's running. Then also check which version does the client sees before they attempt to connect to it via join servers tab.

It seems to be still using it. I don't want to play public test though.

I am not trying to do public test. This was the stable install that messed up. I have deleted it all and reinstalled on my dedi (Server I have set up in my house). Using the same way I have done since the game came out.
C:\steamcmd\steamcmd.exe +force_install_dir "C:\Valheim" +login anonymous +app_update 896660 validate
However when I go to connect it tells me Incompatible version. I have wiped the saves and made it make a new world. Just to test I set my client (My PC) to Public test and it connects and lets me in. This tells me that the person above that said it was for some reason giving the ptb is right. And for some reason since it is a LAN connection it does not show me the version number the dedi is running like it does when i look at other servers online.
I had waited a while hoping this thing would sort itself out and they would fix it. So I tried again today when the small patch came out. Maybe if everyone that starts patching has issues it will get fixed. As it is I don't want to run ptb and I am just stuck playing other games.

If that doesn't work, clear Steam cache files and manually delete server installation files before running the command.

Apparently manually setting the branch to public when updating works.
After this section:
+app_update 896660
Include this:
-beta public
https://steamdb.info/app/896660/depots/?branch=public

Yeah that fixes it.
