I have not seen them resurfacing at all.
I don't think they do.

they did for me, but not sure if it's the update yesterday or they just take a long time. sorry can only half answer the OP.

The pillar[valheim.fandom.com] should not return once it submerges.

Ooh, do they resurface? Never seen that, not from Ptb bases yet, are you sure you didn't get mistaken by another one?

they do not resurface at all. once they sink they are gone. people falsely reported them comeing back up. not the case at all.

There was a glitch, where if the Leviathan begins to sink, you can log out.

When you log back in, the Leviathan will be back at the surface and no longer sinking.

Leviathans can begin sinking again if you harvest again. I do not know if this glitch is still functioning, but it could be related.

EDIT: This glitch does not happen online/multiplayer, the host needs to go offline.

so this guy came back. the other 2 came back after i logged in, hence my original comment. no logging out was needed. i did what i could, smelted my stuff, came back a few days later.

interestly, there used to be a valkary spawn (i assume) in that area, the original one that murdered me in the same rock on the left. didn't know about the knockback at the time. anyways, haven't seen it in awhile, i assume the workbenches ... helped?

My first flametal pillar resurfaced/re-appeared. My 2nd crack at it got a bit more metal and now it's gone for good. *shrug*

They currently respawn in some cases, it is considered a bug. It is not in the "planned" fixes but categorized in the "near future" fixes. So the fix might not even be in the next update. They can respawn when a zone reloads for some people.

A lot of verbal diarrhea can be posted here so its best to research things yourself.

PTB:

Flametal spires will no longer submerge when mined

So, no longer a leviathon?

correct. its now a fixed object. its a band aid fix to prevent the "perma float" bug that was happening. not an ideal fix but they said it was comeing for now until they can hopefully fix the perma float bug permanently.

queen buff is less incentivised i suppose but that's for another topic. so i guess they realised the whole taming to mine route is painful too huh?
step 1: dig a pit while fighting the neighborhood with undergeared armour and food.
step 2: collect loot from ground zero. 5+ stacks of grausten take a surprising amount of time to collect
step 3: lure askvins and build line of sight walls, spawn suppression campfires, portal hut.
step 4: (optional) pick a bad spot near a valk spawn and wipe all tamed askvin, restart to step 1

step 5: prepare spire area by clearing out and campfire suppress the entire lava lake
step 6: mine out metals
step 7: build a saddle and drive a living askvin all the way to work site. hope workbench is still there so stuff don't despawn

now we just do step 5 and 6 and we're done.

you never needed an askvin to mine or collect metal.

you also dont need campfires to surpress the spawns. all you need is the shield. it supresses the spawns and the lava eruptions aswell.

then you can use basalt bombs safely aswell. or just use grausten ladders and feather cape should be used when mineing anyway as its just too helpful with them.

once the pillar is sunk you can use the plattform bombs to collect metal that fell into the lava.

asksvins where never super useful in pillar mineing operations. so what you wrote there is just not needed nor was needed ever.

just like how fort speed running with ladders bypassing both our suggestions. i made the point it's short cutting what i assume would be interesting and new use for tames.

entire biome is super short progression wise. shortest we have ever had actually.
