Will Ashlands appear in my Old world Saves?
Ive been wondering if Ashlands content is available in saves from prior to Ashlands patch, so long as "most" of the map had remained unexplored?

The mistlands appeared in my pre-mistlands saves so I assume ashlands would do the same. Its probably just buggy terrain if there were buildings or such in the area prior to the update.

Ashlands will only properly populate in areas still covered by the fog of war (unexplored). It may regenerate some of it, but it will be lacking if you've explored a lot of the ashlands prior to the release.

I found myself a Seed with a huge central continent. Pre-Ashlands, I could walk from various biomes into the Ashlands. At that time it was empty and the only enemies were the fire guys from the Swamp. So I had explored a sliver of it before the patch. After the patch the hole continent changed. Everything to the South dropped into the sea to separate the Ashlands from the rest of the lands. It created some really interesting bugs like floating mountains. But yes, you should have no problem having Ashlands on old servers even if you explored it.

I have a pre-mistlands world and completed both the mistlands and ashlands with no real issues.
For ashlands happened the same things that happened with mistlands: the territories that I had already explored were unnafected, but still have some new enemies spawning on it. The surrounding areas were also not updated.
I had to walk a mile from the places I had already explored to see well generated content.
The most dramatic change was both Ashlands and Deep North being disconnected from the other continents. I had a little base in a mistlands very near the Deep North and it was destroyed, the floor sunk beneath the sea.

I explored a large part of ashlands before the update, to collect ores...

Guess I'll have a small part of ashlands land to explore now.

In the area I've already explored I could find new monster and those lava pits, but so far no charred fortress nor scorched trees

If you didn't mine the metals before the update you could have mined the new metals that they added from spires that got added to pre explored ashlands, in the place of where the old ore deposits used to be.

I found about 20 or so spires but you only get about 15 - 20 or so ores each, but still worth it as I explored a middle chunk of island and got the easiest ores, some right on the beach, some on land, etc.

I played on a dedicated server with a group of 4 on a map from when the game first released. It is heavily explored, including parts of Ashlands. We even built a fairly large base in central Ashlands. (from long before the update)

The base has a portal in it and it's active. So I popped through, the base is floating about 30 meters above the ocean (used to be on land). I was able to jump back through before it started to fall apart.

As a result our Ashland was semi-broken. There were no spikes in the ocean on approach, and the shores were flat and barren with just enemy spawns. That said we were ultimately able to find plenty of completely formed and intact Ashlands, plenty of fortresses and yes even the final boss.
