We placed a 3rd boat to see.. and yep within 30 seconds another volcanic rock landed on the newly built boat.
We just called the run there.
That is not a fun gameplay mechanic and a dev has got to be mental to think that has any kind of fun vs reward factor to it.
You should take a loot at the screenshot. I don't think they'll want to stay where they are.
Move inland, make a small base with a teleporter and never touch that accursed ship ever again...
Ashlands isn't the kind of location where you wanna take numerous trips on boat. Land, move, secure a mini-base with a teleporter and start working on the usual biome checklist.
Do yourself a favor and look at the screenshot before you keep discussing and embarass yourself.
There is no "inland" from their position, at least not much :D
So what would they have to do? Sail on to a bigger bit of land. With the boat.
Though that means even less reason to stay.
just make a boat in another location and sail off. Or just teleport away and sail in again from another point, there's really no point in spending any time there...
either way it's not worth the headache
It usually just sits near the shore and waits for it's destruction. It does not even burn from the attacks of bonemaws, and not from cinder rain.
So this must be a really odd case of terrain generation.
From the texture it looks like the drakkar would somehow stand on a bit of lava, but I actually never saw lava being generated under water.
But it is possible to lower lava until it IS beneath the water.
So...
@OP: If you still read this, would you please tell us the world seed and the postion of that Island? I would really like to try to investigate this.
As for a solution: You could try to build the boat on the other side of the island, maybe the side that points towards the central ashlands, because that's where the bigger landmasses are, and those will be the ones worth a landing.
Tried 1-2 more drakkars later on, same slow ticking damage happend to them.
In a testworld I placed a drakkar on a lava lake.
Like I expected the boat startet to take damage immediately and showed the same glowing texture as in the screenshot.
Even the amount of damage taken was the same (just more of the same numbers, because I placed it fully onto the lava).
So my guess is that a tiny bit of lava beneath the water is the culprit.
However, I could not find any examples of this while moving the camera around with freeflight.
Well, my assumption is right I would take the seed and the coordinates as an example and really file this as a bug report or at least question if that is intended. I'm pretty sure it is not.
