Do you need to start a new game once the mistlands update is out?
just wondering

I wouldn't worry about it. We're all going to be old and grey before any such update gets released.

Big facts said by @grinfilledcelt.... just keep posting lack luster teasers instead of new progress with new content and an ideal release date.

While I am bummed it's taking longer than expected, they at least show that it's coming soon. So we at least got that, unlike games like Star Citizen which are now border line pyramid schemes with little hope of ever delivering on their promises.

It's been "coming soon" for well over a year.

it depends if there is content throughout the biomes or just mistlands. this update sounds like it will be very big, so there may be extra content throughout. whether that requires a new world or not is uncertain. it might be new recipes with the same ingredients, which wouldnt require a new world.

To build upon what is stated about this. its also not limited to what's only been explored. There is a render distance beyond the explored places that can affect this. It is best to think on it as being a situation that goes beyond the fog'd/unexplored area. So if there is a mistlands area near where you've explored, but is primarily fog'd as unexplored on the map, potentially part of that will be counted as explored. If you read on threads back in the spring when mountain caves were added, you'll see how that played out/was explained.

So if that is the case with the map that you've been playing on, you've got a few options.

1. Use the same seed with a new name and start building now in areas very very far from where you've explored on your old map so as to not trigger losses.

2. Similar to point 1, wait until Mistlands is added and then do it. At the very least most of the map you'll be familiar with.

3. Use the web based map seed generator to find a completely new map that has intriguing or good mistlands and other options for you to do similar to points 1 or 2.

No matter your considerations, good luck to you.

When you create the greatest game ever, it's important to get the update right before release. Why do people cry?

not sure, i got on the game recently and it said my old character was a legacy save so i made a new character and world. Im pretty sure you dont have to make a new one as long as its not a legacy character but i always make a new one anyway whenever theres a major update on any game cause sometimes they add early game stuff and changes (like boss textures, combat changes, etc)

Not necessarily...
You download the mod "Upgrade World" when it is ready for the new version of course.
With the mod you can regenerate whole areas. After that you can remove the mod again and use the world normally.

ive been mostly staying in the center i didnt go too far i only been in 2 biomes can it only regenerate areas that are unexplored? but it prob wont be necessary since it will do that on its own after the update as long as i didnt explore the entire map and didn't explore every biome

All forsaken you have already beaten, and placed on the standing stones will still be there. Those will not change.

When the new biome (Mistlands) comes out there will be a new standing stone added to the start area to hang the new forsaken.

The thing to keep in mind is that, any areas that you have already explored / discovered (I think 500 meters (render distance) in all directions from where the character traveled) will not recieve the update properly, so if you explored the empty mistlands area or other unfinished areas already, they will not be updated with the new content within 500 meters of where the character has been.
