While I am bummed it's taking longer than expected, they at least show that it's coming soon. So we at least got that, unlike games like Star Citizen which are now border line pyramid schemes with little hope of ever delivering on their promises.
A bit optimistic.. Maybe your grandchildren's grandchildren will be around for the Mistlands update
To build upon what is stated about this. its also not limited to what's only been explored. There is a render distance beyond the explored places that can affect this. It is best to think on it as being a situation that goes beyond the fog'd/unexplored area. So if there is a mistlands area near where you've explored, but is primarily fog'd as unexplored on the map, potentially part of that will be counted as explored. If you read on threads back in the spring when mountain caves were added, you'll see how that played out/was explained.
So if that is the case with the map that you've been playing on, you've got a few options.
1. Use the same seed with a new name and start building now in areas very very far from where you've explored on your old map so as to not trigger losses.
2. Similar to point 1, wait until Mistlands is added and then do it. At the very least most of the map you'll be familiar with.
3. Use the web based map seed generator to find a completely new map that has intriguing or good mistlands and other options for you to do similar to points 1 or 2.
No matter your considerations, good luck to you.
You download the mod "Upgrade World" when it is ready for the new version of course.
With the mod you can regenerate whole areas. After that you can remove the mod again and use the world normally.
But what about Forsaken? all already explored forsaken and... yes its good question
All forsaken you have already beaten, and placed on the standing stones will still be there. Those will not change.
When the new biome (Mistlands) comes out there will be a new standing stone added to the start area to hang the new forsaken.
The thing to keep in mind is that, any areas that you have already explored / discovered (I think 500 meters (render distance) in all directions from where the character traveled) will not recieve the update properly, so if you explored the empty mistlands area or other unfinished areas already, they will not be updated with the new content within 500 meters of where the character has been.
