You're right. You don't know.
Every other swamp meant running through a plains biome or sailing a raft into a sea of leeches and wraiths with pre-iron gear.
Here is the Seed i started after the Bog Witch patch and now the
4th time in a row.
If you follow the Coastline from the Spawn Stones all the way towards South,
you will come to an almost "flattish" and nice wide open spot inside the
Meadows, right next to the Black Forest.
I built my House there too, but not in this run this time.
Haldor is on the same Continent, if you keep following towards South, and
that small patch of Swamp right next to it contains 5 Crypts, where i gathered
enough Iron to get started with the Iron age.
Here is the Seed: eIFfiE3FXA
Another good Seed is one i have played by taken my very first Steps in the Game.
Today and after all these Game updates, and throwing it into the World Generator,
from the Starting Stones towards the West there you have a whole bunch
of Crypts, including Haldor, Hildir, the Bog Witch, and Bonemass.
Here is the Seed: KvnzinZCjE
So if the RNG luck is not your Cup of Tea, then be thankful for those people who
created those Tools for us, to avoid this situation.
Hope it helps you ...
I remember a world on which I had to clear 3 swamps to get enough iron to make it through iron age and plains.
Shortly after I did the mistlands I found a swamp (actually closer to my base than the others, just another direction that I never sailed because I followed the boss stones that I found) that had 25 crypts.
Then I started playing with a friend who had a previously established multiplayer map with his friends who don't play anymore. I joined and was the furthest one along, we traveled quite a bit and never found iron. So I ported over all of my iron and we managed to find silver by making a castle in the mountains. Eventually he made a new map very recently and we still can't find any crypts.
So to summarize I find iron when solo, when playing on my friends maps we never do. Not a multiplayer issue, but an rng issue. The same friend also seems to never be happy with his Minecraft seeds calling them unlucky. So did Valheim make crypts rarer or is it simply bad luck?
I'm more inclined towards bad luck, but the luck does contrast my initial experience vastly since I was able to get Iron before fighting the Elder from the swamp hillside. A fluke, probably, but there was no doubt I had all the iron a solo player could need,
That does not always work. You might end up having 25 Crypts in a swamp inside the nearer circle and have a hard time finding crypts further out.
Why in Odin's name are you using a RAFT? You should be using a Karve by now, which makes exploration of the ocean soooo much easier.
I was sick of losing the karves to random plains or swamp mobs, I still used one to actually find swamp biomes but approached land on rafts. It's easier to shoot from a raft than a karve to clear stuff on the way in.
Land in black forest or meadows. I've never lost a boat.
