Reliable way to get Abominations to spawn?
I want to get the Root Set, but having to wait around for six Abominations to spawn is pretty extreme, is there any way to make them spawn more frequently, the same way you can use a Love Potion to make trolls spawn more frequently?

Not that I'm aware of, but you could go into your world modifiers, triple the drop rate, run around the swamps until you get what you need, then drop it back down if you want.

You could setup multiple portals to several different swamps, so that you can go back and forth much faster to get what you need.
Abomination spawns are pretty much fixed, so once you find two or three, just go back there after a few in-game days.

Not at all. Just spend one in-game week in some outpost nearby a large swamp patch, and patrol the swamp (harvesting things, of course).
Funny enough i have the opposite problem. They seem to always spawn when i dont want them to.

Oh yeah, when I didn't want to fight them there were like 3 of them, but I want to get the armour so I need another 4 of them, and despite loitering around in the swamp and wasting time making some footpaths, they didn't want to spawn, it's typical xD
Try sailing around your swamp and make landfall after a certain distance. I can guarantee you that an abomination will spawn right after you set foot in the swamp. ;)

Honestly, I really think they roll a dice when you make landfall to decide if an abomination will spawn or not. And the percentage that one does come up must be pretty high (at least 50/50).

Better activate more zones when you travel in the swamps, so try to travel in "diagonal". Also, as you discovered it, abominations act like lurkers and you have to get pretty close for them to get out of the ground.

Look for greenish colored treestumps standing in places you would not expect a tree to grow. There you might find an abomination that has not become aware of you yet and thus still hides underground.
An arrow will wake it up.

You should also mark the spot on the map, because it will eventually respawn right there.

Craft yourself a Spear, it doesn't need to be a fancy one, a Level 1 Flint version
will do the Job too, if you are not into Spears.

Use the middle Mouse Button to throw it to the ground, and if the Distance is
not too close to an inactive Abom then you will hear that Grumpy noise from it.

And if you are closer, you will trigger it of course right away.

Keep in mind this method will also trigger all other Mobs,
close enough to your Spear action.

So walk step by step through the Swamp, throw your Spear to the ground,
trigger the Abom or not, pay attention to your surroundings ... rinse and repeat.

As another Tip, use Headphones while you are doing this, it helps a lot.

Yeah, I believe I noticed this with my last abomination, I first mistook it for a muddy pile from a distance. Usually, they arise behind trees, but I started to deforest this patch of swamp.

going to agree, i have had 3 of them spawn within about 30 feet of each other.

:D it was okay because there was plenty of those indestructible fallen trees around. on top of the fact i have gotten good at parrying them, so parry + chop chop > free roots.

I admit, I mostly use angry trolls to fight abominations, and angry abominations to fight trolls and fullings.
