You could setup multiple portals to several different swamps, so that you can go back and forth much faster to get what you need.
Honestly, I really think they roll a dice when you make landfall to decide if an abomination will spawn or not. And the percentage that one does come up must be pretty high (at least 50/50).
An arrow will wake it up.
You should also mark the spot on the map, because it will eventually respawn right there.
Craft yourself a Spear, it doesn't need to be a fancy one, a Level 1 Flint version
will do the Job too, if you are not into Spears.
Use the middle Mouse Button to throw it to the ground, and if the Distance is
not too close to an inactive Abom then you will hear that Grumpy noise from it.
And if you are closer, you will trigger it of course right away.
Keep in mind this method will also trigger all other Mobs,
close enough to your Spear action.
So walk step by step through the Swamp, throw your Spear to the ground,
trigger the Abom or not, pay attention to your surroundings ... rinse and repeat.
As another Tip, use Headphones while you are doing this, it helps a lot.
going to agree, i have had 3 of them spawn within about 30 feet of each other.
:D it was okay because there was plenty of those indestructible fallen trees around. on top of the fact i have gotten good at parrying them, so parry + chop chop > free roots.
