Valheim
2025 roadmap
Is there a roadmap for Valheim 2025 or some sort of direction the developers are headed?

Noone complains about the times it takes a game to be developed in early access if it is actually being developed but you can´t tell me that these devs are actively working on this game. No way. I have seen single devs do more, much more.

My experience differs from yours by a large margin. I play with several folks who also share my experience. Not everything is perfect - but no game is.

Seems you hang out in a place you don't like.

If I didn't like a nearby restaurant, I'd probably choose to go to another one instead, /shrug.
What are you talking about? I´m mainly hanging out in the KCD2 restaurant these days. Just stopping by to tell you the cook of your restaurant is gone missing since a while.
Which indie devs update more frequently than big triple A companies with hundreds of employees? Some of the bigger names like Project Zomboid, Terraria, Rimworld, Stardew Valley get like 1 medium sized update a year if that exactly the same as Valheim

https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Version_History

Sure seems like they're MIA if the last update was in late november 2024 definitely seems similar to one of those hundreds of survival EA titles on steam that haven't been touched in 5 years

Only one biome remains? When was the previous one released?

Ashlands was released in May 2024.
The next one that is currently being developed is Deep North. Devs confirmed that release of Deep North will be Valheim 1.0.
And since the last 2 biome updates, Mistlands and Ashlands, took more than a year to develop each, my guess is that Deep North will take even more since devs need to do final bug fixes and optimization before 1.0. So, if we get Deep North by the end of this year it will be great.
Thanks!

Nah mate, see this delicious meal my friends and I are eating? The chef is doing well and we like it here. Cheers.
Two opposing beliefs about the developers, and one easy fix! Better communication from them!

"urm but teasers are communication, it's not like they fuel frustration and impatience of people and add little insight to the development of the game!!!... Entitled!!!!!!!!!!"

Impatience is a negative feeling and is not something we should blame players for it.
It is caused by the Early Access way of development.

Yeah definitely, it's a feeling we all feel. It's pretty easy to look at it as negative too since acting out of impatience can seem rude or self-prioritising. So it just matters on how people express it. Excitement can lead to impatience. Passion, stress, boredom all do too. I'd imagine uncertainty factors in too to a degree.

You can't blame people for being impatient at all that's true, though it does depend on how they express it, and some people lash out at the developers and that's crap. But yeah again, the developers posting teasers is definitely not helping at all. Just adding fuel to the fire. And they've been doing it for a while now too.

Another way developers kind of fail is when they start to develop MMORPGs as Early Access.
Those even when fully developed, push players patience to the limit. But they try hope get support during Early Access, and even ask for money to let players "test".
By the time the game is finished, very few still play the game as other newer games are released.
I can afford to support the development but is hard to not associate negative feelings with the game itself.
On top of that there are people who like to create drama as you say. Often is better to stay away from forums.
let the devs cook, they've come out with amazing content so far, no reason for them to rush the ending out of the door and give us a product they arent proud of

many other games out there, occupy your self with those whilst you wait for this one to finish

Yeah, think EA only works well for singleplayer/coop games the best because of that. Multiplayer games are often based on hype and trends, if it's not trending or doesn't have any mechanics or gameplay features that are captivating enough for the players to stay then they'll eventually just leave, and when that games goes into release then some people might come back and that's it. At that point, the developers might think why did they even bother to further develop the game.

But i mean in the steam guidelines for EA games, it says;

"What Early Access Is Not
Early Access is not a way to crowdfund development of your product."

"You should not use Early Access solely to fund development. If you are counting on selling a specific number of units to complete your game, then you need to think carefully about what it would mean for you or your team if you don't sell that many units. Are you willing to continue developing the game without any sales? Are you willing to seek other forms of investment?"

I do not believe IG is doing that at all, they're fine, it's just that they're just rather slow, for whatever reason we do not know. Finance, time, experience, skill, technical complications, etc...
I think it's good that EA doesn't make MMOs anymore, because their MMO became more of a nightmare...
I will never touch an EA game again, it's not my kind of game anyway.
Despite my age, I love new attempts at game variations.
I don't like pure action or shooters that bore me quickly.
If you see a dev team puting up a roadmap, run away. Experienced devs know you should never have a roadmap. The game will be ready when it's ready. Roadmaps always lead to rushed releases.

There are exceptions to every rule.

The team working on Enshrouded has had a roadmap since the beginning and they are aggressively hitting goals at a rapid pace , updating the roadmap with community feedback, and communicating in great detail very frequently.
Nah, this game is the poster child for getting too much money up front and essentially doing token updates. Despite all the money, they didn't even _kind_ of follow their original roadmap (They did more work _before_ they got the money). They sure aren't going to produce another one that people can point at and laugh. Remember, this game came out in 2021 and made a TON of money. It's why I no longer support EA - it's simply become common place to never leave EA so you can keep saying the game is 'in progress' when you never finish it. It didn't use to be like this. Yeah, valheim holds a special place in my heart when it comes to EA. Never again. Enjoy!

They came out with amazing content in 2021. That's about it.
