Valheim

Valheim

Worth it for 2 players on private server?
My wife and I are interested in picking up a new game and this has been on our radar for awhile. We would most likely make our own private server with just the 2 of us like we did in V rising. I am wondering if anyone else had a similar experience and how it was.

I should mention that we would pay the money to have a dedicated private server for us as well.

I play like this with a friend, he is the Host and i connect via Valheim Server Browser. Works also fine with a 3rd friend joining us occasionally.
Isn't that the way most people play this...?

I have not played it yet so I am not sure. We are kinda new to this genre of games as well. I just assumed most people play on one of the public servers or if they do have a private server it is with a much larger group than just 2 players.
Naah, the impression I've got is most people play either solo or just on local server with a couple of mates. That's obviously how the game is meant to be played. If you have larger group, you can apparently rent a dedicated server which is then up all the time, and not dependant on any one dude being online.

My wife and I play this frequently together on a local map seed. I would very much recommend the two of you go in blind together on a private game - she and I had a ton of fun exploring around without a guide and figuring out how to proceed on our own when Valheim first came available in early access.

As I understand it, public servers are rife with cheaters and griefers, and I don't think any of us would want your first experience with the game to potentially be polluted by a chance encounter with that sort.

I would pay for a dedicated private server and we would definitely go in blind. We have a small group of maybe 4-6 others that may jump in with us as well. V rising was our first serious jump into this genre and we absolutely loved it as PVE players.
If its just you and the wife no need to spend the money on a server. Just have the person with most powerful comp host and plan on LAN. That's what my wife and I do.

Yah, there's no need to pay for a private server. You or your wife can host the game on either of your local desktops.

I also got a kick out of V Rising - ran that with my wife and a few members of my FF raid team.

Yeah but there will be times just one of us will want to hop on. We may also have a few friends who may join us. Having to always keep one of our computers on to host the server is not ideal.
This is the only game ive been able to play consistently with my wife. its good for 2 people. more than 2 and i would up the difficulty.
i host and she pops on.

Absolutely worth it. I had a lot of fun with my friends. The only problem in these type of games is if you want to explore together but the others have time to play on their freetime and explore all secrets without you.
I have been using SparkedHost for about a year. Decently cheap and we have five people rotating through it.
wife n i play together all the time, its heaps of fun.
I'm jealous of a lot of you. My lady doesn't like Valheim because she "Doesn't like how the building works"

Boo-urns.

If you are using a LAN you can do file sharing and run the map from either computer. That solves the problem without a server if its just you and your wife.
