i have both. Have alot more hours in valheim for sure. Enshrouded just isnt as fun do to some basic design issues. These may yet be resolved. Neither are bad games.
Enshrouded is handmade and static, so the world is quite detailed and fun to explore, but it will be the same each time you jump in. Building is much more free with its more refined placement of blocks, more building materials, full terrain deformation allowing for underground construction, and no structural integrity to worry about. The game is also more guided as it offers NPCs to unlock and quests to complete to advance. As for modding, Enshrouded has 32 on Nexusmods.
Valheim's world is fully randomized, making exploration feel more natural and fresh every time. Building is more limited, slowly expanding as you advance through the game, and requires some smart use of supports to make sure it doesn't all come tumbling down. But with some creative effort, one can make some very impressive structures. Terrain deformation is limited in that you can really only make a deep ditch or tall earthen wall; no tunnels or underground caves. And as NPCs are mainly limited to immobile traders, player advancement is done through finding new materials and refining them, rather than quest unlocks. And for mods, Valheim has over 2100 to choose from on Nexusmods.
Valheim is also not the 'hardcore brutal' survival game it claims to be anymore
Enshoruded does that thing that ark does, where you can change so many settigns that no one plays the same, i guess enshouded does it lightly
A lot of people dont enjoy valheim without mods, they'll give you this "oh no its just customization" but every mod they do changes the core mehcanins (inventory management, and food usage etc) and to top if off, they wont play it if they update and their mods are broken (leaving you to play by yourself)
Enshrouded feels the exact same as craftopia/palworld its eeirily the same feeling when you control the character
Enshrouded has better ideas, but something about the game is so Indie/generic its hard to place
Valheim is the actual generic one
but it feels more like its own game when you play it
Good assessment! I totally agree. Enshrouded seem to have it all going for it, but somehow it all don't fit right. I think it has a lot to do with a very bland and uninspired loot system and less interesting and very repetitive enemies. There is a lot of repetition in the game and it just feels like nothing is unique. Its like a technical masterpiece but has no heart.
I find Enshrouded to be way easier, and have a harder time putting hours into it. I do enjoy it though. Just not as much as Valheim so far.
Enshrouded easily has the best building system i've ever encountered, and the terraforming is deeply satisfying. My husband and I set it to the max difficulty for fun and it was a stRUGGLE, but rewarding. I'm really looking forward to seeing the NPCs interact with each other in the bases as the game develops, and exploring more about the in-game lore.
Valheim is gorgeous pixel-y nostalgic goodness, and while the building mechanics are very disappointing compared to enshrouded, I find the combat to be more engaging/intuitive and the soundtrack absolutely pops off. Despite playing with a group of people, I find Valheim feels a little lonely in a very intentional way (honorific). Valheim is much more contained and thematic so it's a little easier to fall in love with it off the vibes alone, but don't discount Enshrouded! both are tonnes of fun.
Shout out to Valheim's tree felling system (I was crushed by a danger tree falling on me by not paying attention to the way it was leaning dangerously, and that is fantastically thoughtful) and shout out to the mining system in enshrouded - slowly carving yourself deeper and deeper into a pitch black tunnel below the earth is spooky as heck, love it.
At the end of the day, if you like survival-craft sandbox-y games you will find lots to appreciate about both :)
Valheim is frustrating by design while Enshrouded is frustrating because it's not finished yet.
Enshrouded is quest based, giving each location a purpose albeit possibly being too overwhelming. On the flip side Valheim is procedural generation based taking away purpose from practically every location but in exchange not overwhelming you or forcing you to go anywhere.
As someone mentioned, if you like customization via mods, valheim has the upside there, though some people argue that it's somewhat necessary (the Skyrim problem).
Enshrouded has good versatility for building and decorating.
Valheim has boats and water and the world just feels bigger and more interesting to explore.
If I could merge the world size from Valheim, the building and decorating from Enshrouded, and the aesthetic of Nightingale they would form my perfect game.
Yeah I was super excited to play Enshrouded (i am burnt out on valheim)
But it was probably the most boring thing ever,
Im hoping future updates will change that, i think its a lot of free assets making it feel generic
Agreed. Enshrouded has great visuals, but the same map on every play through, knowing where chests will always be, and the easy combat makes Enshrouded feel lesser for me. The building in Enshrouded is also very basic and blocky.
