Blocking Skill Loss and Recovery
My question to the community is about game mechanics for skilling up blocking.

Situation:
I primarily run sword/bow/himminafl as backup. Entering Ashelands I had a block skill around 42. After much exploring and progress through the new biome my block skill fell to around 14. Its Ashelands, so if you know... you know.

To re-skill up my block, I entered the black forest, found a greydwarf spawner and spent some time getting back my block to 30-ish.

Question:
When skilling up blocking, is there any difference to increase blocking skill when at attacked from say a Neck, to a skeleton, to a greydwarf, to a Fuling, etc....?
Is there a benefit blocking Neck attacks vs blocking a wolf attack? or is it the same.....
Will skill increase be the same regardless of enemy, or, is skilling up block better/faster against stronger opponents?

I am not asking this question as a min-max stat thing. . . just a question that I hope the answer will help me find a solution to help me recoup my lost skills using an effective and appropriate method.

If the wiki is accurate: "The player gains 0.5 experience per blocked attack and 1 experience when parrying. The experience is gained even if the block or parry fails." so leveling up seems to be a quantity over quality thing.

If that's the case, my suggestion is to find a nice corner in a burial chamber to stand in and block skeleton attacks. They're pretty aggressive but weak, so they'll keep swinging while your health is fine.

Fighting greydwarves is tedious. Why not go somewhere fun like ML, Plains even Swamp. Lots of blocking to be done there but a lot more engaging. Wiki just says:
"The player gains 0.5 experience per blocked attack and 1 experience when parrying". It does mention greydwarves as an easy way but you might as well have more fun getting your skills back.

The problem with greydwarfs that I see is that they spend a lot of time just running around. Enemies like skeletons, draugr, or wolves are better since they attack relentlessly.

At times, I have relied on Skeleton raids on base to level up blocking quickly. So many skeletons attacking will get your blocking leveled up very quickly. As Suzaku mentioned its "quantity over quality". I was just never sure if stronger mobs provided better skill up progress opportunities.

Without skeleton raid, I chose black forest greydwarfs because its fairly safe and low risk. After stressing in Ashelands, sometimes you just need to relax by hanging out in Blackforest. lol.

Thanks for the info guys. Much appreciate.

On my first Ashlands server I built a block farm in the swamp.

Yes, building a shooting range with skeletons is a very efficient way to gain block. Simply pull the ranged skeletons from a spawner to their destinated and prepared location, get out the serpent shield, put something on the block button or use a macro and have fun.

A burial chamber can be sufficient but has limited space. With a shooting range you can have up to 30-50 Skeletons shooting at you.

I think there is a tutorial out there for a "template"

Some time ago i found a video on YT where guys made a block trainer using skeleton archers. Since then i always build it on my servers.
The idea is to gather 20-30 skeleton archers in one hole. Use serpent shield to block and watch your skill going up rapidly. It takes around 2 hours to get blocking skill from 0 to 100.
It takes probably twice that time to build a block trainer.
So if you want a fun project to build in your world, go to YT and search for block trainer.
If you are at Ashlands your fastest way to return your block skill would be to find a draugr village. Put your old Root harnesk back on and just stand in the middle of town and let them come. Lots of spawners in close proximity and enemies that are archers or charge you directly.

if you can make them, blocking your own ballista is great practice, with the cheap wood or whatever the low cost ammo is. Its faster, safer, and easier than trying to find an enemy spawner that doesn't get destroyed by stray hits or spawn pests like toxic dwarf etc.

I tuned my XP rate up anywhere between x3 - x5 with loss either turned down by like 75% at the minimum or off completely. Then I double stamina regen. It doesn't fix a broken system but it definitely alleviates the pain of dealing with Iron Gate's fundamentally broken system.
Draugr village. Use root harnesk plus serpent scale shield. Then just be patient.

Alternatively if you don't want to waste your time watching moss grow:
F5
devcommands
raiseskill block 42

Most efficient way is looking for the most possible enemies that pose the least threat so as you can imagine very fun and interactive gameplay...

That might be more efficient but it also flags you as a cheater in your playerstats.

So our block trainer with 128 skeletons were a bit too much.

hehe the sound of the hail of arrows must be so loud. I can only imagine the stamina bar going to zero near instantly with a low block skill even with the serpent shield. :D
