Valheim

3 *Years* of Early Access?
Let's be honest, is this acceptable in any way?

It has been almost two months that we have not heard from the developers about the Deep North. No public test news yet, no teasers.

Can we please finish the game?

Its perfectly acceptable. 7 Days to Die was in EA for 10 years and it wasn't an issue at all. The game was worked on and updated.

Let me ask you this, would it satisfy you if they just renamed this update 1.0? Then the game is done right? It doesn't matter. They will continue to work on the game regardless of whats its called right now.

It really doesn't matter.

The typical dev cycle has typically been around 2-5 years. If Early Access SLOWS development, because it does slow it not make it go faster, and its only been 3 years then there's nothing at all worth mentioning here.
How long do you THINK games stay in early access when its being used properly by the devs?

The realistic answer is about 4-6 years on average.
There are exceptions that have been achieved by indie devs and very large stuidos/AAA companies that use it as well.

Do not compare anything a mega studio accomplishes to small team indie devs. The scale is incomparable.

So yes, it is acceptable. Deal with it.

Why are you in such a rush.

Every time someone complains the game is in early access, release is pushed away another day.

:D If that were true, i would just keep complaining.
It might be a small team.
and the way computer coding has evolved on our planet, it's a mess of intricate troubleshooting for every little detail.

7 Days in still in early access/beta, regardless of what they want you to think, that "big impressive" 1.0 update was in response to being ridiculed about celebrating 10 years of development, it's wasn't actually a release, the game isn't anywhere near done, lol.

But yes, the time in early access is fine, game development take a long time, most AAA company games aren't even announced until they're almost done, and that's with hundreds to thousands of employees working on them. I would fully expect another 5-10 years at least before this is "done".
You want them to work quickly and put out slop or do you want them to take the time to do things right? Even taking time out to write a post to update you on what is being done may be premature since what they have in mind to do may not work with the framework they have built. Even suggesting something you might not be able to do can be a problem that could cause a false advertising suit. Even if its dismissed it costs money and time so the best thing to do is say nothing and let your finished product speak for itself.

I've been playing this game modded and unmodded for years. 191 hours and I still fire it up every now and then. I've gotten my moneys worth 10 times over. The games already great and every update just gives you more to explore.

Early Access trend between developers is out of control. Not just this game but all around.
Steam and all gaming community should step in and disallow EA games from take part in any kind of Awards.
I understand Devs are protecting themselves from Lawsuits but they are going overboard with it.

Rust was in early access for 5 years and it's basically the same as it was at the start.

Heck Star Citizen has been in development for 12 years now.
Project Zomboid has been in "Early Access" for around 15 years, and Steam still won't give me a refund.

If Steam were to disallow EA there would be far fewer games available. Its one of the things that have caused the AAA game companies to lose their iron grip on the gaming industry. Indies with good ideas can pop up and challenge the monopolies. This has the beneficial effect of forcing the AAA game studios to eliminate waste, eliminate things that don't enhance the game experience, and generally put out a better product that their customers actually want to buy.

There are a lot of large game studios that are having to re-examine their business models and make their products both more affordable and more customer friendly.

I, for one, do not want Steam to eliminate EA but I do think they should do more about abandonware.

Generally, I would hope most of us could agree that Valheim hardly qualifies as abandonware, and are able to recognize that a couple of months passing without an update on the next biome from IG is fairly standard for their pace of development.

Wife and I have gotten considerable enjoyment out of this game since it released into EA and we very much look forward to future updates, whensoever they come.
