Updates destroyed the game for me
I was very eager to explore the nex content.
But when the update modifed all the height of the mistlands, me and my friend just lost all our sap farms and stuff we had there.
And we left on that note, and we never had the motivation to do it again in another mistland.
Especially after wait for SO long the bad surprise was not reasonnable and really ruined our expectations and motivation to play the game in general.
Idk if i will ever enjoy playing the game like i did the first time.
We will probably never finish the game as we have to restart entire chunks of content and wait a year between each updates.

I would recommend people to not play the game until it's finished if they want to ever finish it. I wish the game was 100% when i bought it so i could have had the chance to finish it.

It's EA, they warned you not to build and explore biomes early.
It's not THAT much to restart Mistlands, honestly it's a mild setback. Your character has already touched key components and learned recipes.

How long ago was this update that modified your Mistlands build? I've had a couple forts and a farm there since before Ashland's and bog witch released. No changes for me.

I am in no way disappointed with the production rate with Valheim. It's high quality compared to many 'finished' games. I would advise anyone to purchase it without any hesitation due to its extremely reasonable price tag. $ per hour, nothing competes.

Suggesting this game is not worth the purchase now, or playing now, because you specifically had a negative experience building in an unfinished biome while already aware updates would radically alter those areas is disingenuous.

IG warned players well ahead of time for Mistlands and Ashlands both that changes to terrain generation were very likely to have consequences for exploration and building projects in those areas: numerous posts about the sea and elevation changes forewarning people about Ashlands especially were posted several times in the months leading up to its implementation.

If you don't want to get back on the horse again, then that's fine, but I feel like you're cutting your nose off to spite your face, and creating a false impression for people new to the game.

Amazing game but its EA and people know the risks.. ive restarted 5 times.. in my "One PLAY THROUGH ONLY" method of playing.. But im still only up to Plains. have just restarted and building a Meadows island base as they mentioned new content for early biomes!!! :-( So exploring no more till Full release.. Love this Game! stay a biome behind the releases or BE PATIENT and BUY when it Goes out of EA..simple really

OP don't blame the game, blame the player. You were warned. Sounds like you should avoid EA games.

Ok, this is news to me. Last I checked, Iron gate was an independent studio owned by the embracer group. Please send me info saying that EA acquired IG.

"Early access," not "Electronic Arts."

I had it happen when Ashlands went live:

Yeah it sucked, but it was also cool because it was like one of the action movie scenes where the entire place was crumbling in slow motion and fell into the ocean (as the gravity physics made the base crumble into the ocean.)

So you got dealt a bad hand which caused a base to be destroyed and lost some stuff. So it widened your options:
- Sulk, throw a fit, rage quit
- Go collect more stuff and rebuild
- Take the character to a new world for a new start.
- Whip out the console and play console command and get everything back.

Oh and if you think an update is the only way to have a base demolished, you aint seen nothing yet. 3 spawned Lox inside your base because you had a gap in workbench coverage, the Gjali raids will burn things to the ground, more than half the mobs in Ashland destroy anything destroyable with their attacks.

Well, thats WAY different. I see EA, I immediately think Electronic Arts. Now if ppl said IN EA, I might not have gotten confused.

Yah man, no worries. I totally get it. I'm also used to EA automatically meaning the company, and its ruinous impact on the properties it purchases, as opposed to the concept of public early access for a beta build.

It's not disingenuous at all.
I am a customer and my review has the same value as yours. My experience was greatly diminished and made it impossible for me to take the game seriously again because of the implications of the updates.
If i was a developper, i would want to know why we lose player base in order to know what to avoid in the future.
When they said the ashland update was going to alter the elevation we were already at the same point, we were already waiting for the ashlands update.
It still sucks, and instead of retarting a game that we already played, we go to other games which will provide us a feeling of novelty, instead of playing 200h to get to the same point and finally start exploring the ashlands for new content. that would be a waste of time. And doing it with cheats ruins the experience.
My comment is useful for players who want to play a finished game and/or avoid a game where they could lose all motivation to play after an update that ruins their experience.

The mistlands update broke a boss altar and spawned a crypt there instead. We had to search for a new place.
We generally start a new world with each biome update, unless we haven't explored the map sufficiently yet.
Crunchy[Daz] Dec 12, 2024 @ 1:39am
Why don't you just use console commands to get yourself setup again? Surely that would be better then just abandoning the game.

This is your frustration speaking.
And absolutely understandable.

I recommend that you start a completely new run in this case, so you can enjoy the new update with the feasts in its natural progression right from the start. And this way, you are not forced to constantly look back at what you have lost.

It won't bring back your base, but it's still worth it and a good time atm. to restart in my opinion. The game is still top notch despite some questionable developer decisions regarding the last two biome updates.

Of course you can also stop, but bear in mind that there is still nothing comparable at the level of Valheim. Despite everything.

What many gamers have forgotten nowadays is that we don't play games to see the credits rollin.
We play games for the enjoyment between the intro and the credits.
