How to separate Hen from Chicken
Is there some obstacle you can build which Hen can pass but Chickens can not? I would like my Chicken in the starting pen and Hen to move to the next pen (where they might get fried hehehe)

There are videos that show you how to make incredibly ugly auto hatchery/meat harvesters/farms you can make with any animal.. including chickens.. those are about the best you're gonna get.

Not sure about seperating Hen from Chicken, but you don't have to build a fancy chicken coop or breeding tower you can literally set up shop in a cleared out Troll Cave, legit.

1. Kill Troll in cave.
2. Place fire on upright stalagmites. (off the ground so they don't burn themselves)
3. Throw eggs down on floor.
4. Wait 2 ingame days or so for Chickens to hatch/grow
5. Seperate them with either signs or cooking stations.
6. Fill any cave chests with Dandelions or carrot seeds.
7. Feed Hens and let the eggs warm by the fire for more Chickens.
8. Profit.

I found videos that show how to make farmers but not how to separate Hens from Chickens. Can you link any?

I found a comment on a video from someone that suggested making a chessboard from 1m by 1m floor pieces.

For some reason the Hens have a smaller box and will fall through the chessboard, while the little chickens stay on top. This way I now have a room with just Hens

Are there spawn limiters that prevent them from laying eggs if there are too many nearby?

Yes.. the smaller the space the less they lay.. I have a 5x4 area and I will have around 10-12 chickens in it or any combination of 10-12 chickens, eggs, chicks at any one time.

Got me thinking.
A hen is an adult female of the species.
A chick is any young bird.
Chick+hen = chicken. A young hen.

And yes... Chickens are smaller than hens in Valheim. Although the texture doesn't show it, they grow smaller as they grow up. You can use that fact to filter them. Hope they never patch that.

If you make a barrier that only chicks can pass, but not hens, the chicks will simply grow into hens on the wrong side of the barrier. That's possible, but it would have to be the opposite - a barrier only big hens can pass, but not little chicks. I can't imagine how that would work. Chicks can get anywhere that hens can.

That's false. Although visually smaller, a chick is physically larger than a hen. Chicks can's pass through a 1x1. Hens can.
