Iron knife?

Just checking whether I'm blind or not; is there no iron knife type in the game? Seems a bit odd if you have to keep using the copper knife when you've reached the iron age. Or, well, be forced to start using another weapon type when you've trained up knives.

ah, I haven't run into chitin yet, but then, judging from the wiki, you probably need a bit more than the basic raft to get it, and I haven't unlocked anything better so far (first time I've reached iron so I don't know what happens).
But chitin is something you can get about the time you reach iron?

You probably can get chitin earlier than iron. A Karve might be useful though.

Open sea on a raft is... yeah, don't do that.
Craft some nails.

Thanks all. This game has a lot of stuff... Been so busy with all the other things that I haven't really thought about sailing yet (and also, the sea looks terrifying at times).

actually, I am all about the raft. Take off all your stuff. Totally "just died" nekkid. Better, wait until you DO die for it.
make a raft. Sail off to see what its all about. Die, and you lost ... nothing worth getting back. Eat stam food if you eat at all, so you can emergency swim.

If you find a barnacle island (yea yea its a critter but it looks like an island) mark the location and come back with a pick. Try to get 3 nodes as fast as you can, stamina food here again.

As a new player, my disappointment was extreme when I landed on one of these with a bag full of construction materials ready to set up shop. Sadly, you can't build on them.
