Cart science (how to get a cart full of black metal up a slope)
Yes, you can drag a cart full of black metal scrap up a 26° slope. At least with some preparation.

This is what I did:
a) I divided the slopes. By putting the 26° wood crosses to the sides of the 26° stairs and attaching a floor at the center of the cross. That way I get a 26° slope that is just 0.5m high. I'm not sure if that has really been necessary, but I wanted to mention it.

b) put on full fenris set. I haven't actually looked at the stats, so maybe one piece does not give you bonus speed. But the armer makes +9% movement speed.

c) drank a ratatosk potion

And it really worked. I was able to drag a full cart of black metal scraps up those stairs, along my dock and to my blast furnaces. That was 5400 weight points in the cart.

Sprinting skill is on 78, for reference. But I'm not sure how much difference that makes.

Just wanted to share this to show that carts are still great, especially if you combine them with appropriate infrastructure and keep in mind that it's your movement speed that enables you to drag a heavier cart.

On our very first map, way back before the H&H patch, we took great pains to construct a large highway up into the mountains for the purpose of hauling silver and obsidian and did everything we could to make the slopes as gentle as possible. No custom world modifiers, after all, and no Frost Caves or Fenris gear; we had six people on server to outfit, and that meant a lot of ore and a lot of cart trips.

And no, it had not yet occurred to any of us to just fling the cart off the side of the mountain.

I am a big fan of infrastructure projects, though, so even if they don't get much use later in the game, I still take pains to build paths around the different biomes.
Good stuff for science!
And its amazing just how important the hoe is. I imagine new players creating the hoe for the first time and not understanding its true power. I carry mine with me a good portion of the time.

This reminds me of some slopes I would make by shift+clicking stone blocks to make a long slope to pull up absurd weights with carts.

The Sprint skill on it's own makes quite a difference, but with the movement speed buffs, not so much.

Once I craft a hoe it never leave my inventory!

I never leave home without meh hoe! I enjoy build roads for hours that will be used for a few days and not need after. Truly!

Well, in my case it was a dock, so the hoe was not very useful there ;-)

But yes, it's the most valuable tool if you need a road from your port to your base.

This reminds me that I still have to grab a stone cutter and pave the aforementioned road.
Pickaxe and a hoe make for easier roads and traversal in Mistlands, too.
Makes me want to consider the Fenris set for the first time (ever) on the server I've been on.
Normally I'd go straight from root to eitr-weave, but maybe I'll experiment

Yeah i love it too, to make roads through the whole isles. It´s cozy. Like a walk through the forest

We have two sets of fenris armor in our base. I tend to lend one for utility purpose from time to time. Things like hauling heavy carts or quickly carrying a load over land (in that case it's ratatosk potion, trollstrength mead, fenris set and Eikthyr's power, sometimes together with lightfoot mead (in case I need to jump a lot, because in that combination you can jump "for free")).
