If parrying isn't an option, roll. Your roll has i-frames, so roll through the attack, then get a couple hits in. Repeat until dead troll.
another tip.. use the trolls strength to smash trees and smash copper rock ore then you dont have to do it your self and can just collect it afterwards. The troll that throw big rocks i dont think can be used for this, but the two other can be usefull.
You can also make the troll follow you into another biome and then fight with stronger enemys so you can get your hands on some stuff more early.
( example make him smash the birch tree its to hard to cut down until you get metal axe )
You are way more likely to be spotted when running. So, unintuitively, the more you run away, the more likely they will keep seeing you and thus will keep chasing you. The best way to shake them, is to run away for as long as possible, and when you are out of stamina: break line of sight and keep walking, while remaining out of their line of sight. Be it that you are over a hill, behind a tree or rock, or whatever. If you start running again, they might spot you again and the chase starts all over again.
Not aggravating Trolls is one of the early lessons, like not standing under falling trees.
The previous post about running around trees and thickets is correct. It slows down the troll until you can widen the distance and lose them.
I'm a stamina junkie. I outrun any mobs I don't have time for early game.
Find the buildings with the bees as soon as possible. Honey/Raspberry/ Cooked deer meat will be your explore food, and Honey/Boar/Deer will be your fighting food.
You don't need a bow or to get poisoned to get those bees. Hint/ you can deconstruct buildings with a workbench and a hammer to get wood without wearing out your axe.
Long term: don't forget that bow, or big balls it and learn to kill him in the future with parry and melee. This is easier done when going back to old content with two or more better biomes worth of gear (so you're a god among men compared to old content and can't really be hurt) and practice with no fear of being killed if you fail. Will only help for future runs but hopefully the game keeps you interested enough to do that!
I'll try it all... I didn't know I was even close to the Black Forest heh. I'll make a Spear and learn how to Dodge too (I didn't know you could do a dodge roll haha)
Also about running, especially early when stamina food is not that good, try to alternate between sprinting and jogging before spending out the stamina bar. Don't let it to get fully empty.
