Death Mosquitoes are making me quit the game
With corpse run, Deer buff, and 120 stamina I cannot recover my corpse for the unholy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that are this game's death mosquitoes of the plains biome. They have lock on targeting, infinite stamina, and worst yet they have infinite range. I've had them chase my longship across the ocean and match speed with my sails full. I've run for over 5 minutes non stop with them not breaking their lock on death run. It is not a fun mechanic. It is a reason to alt f4. Just craft a bow? how? I am at the edge of the world with the only tools and resources of accessible quality on my distant corpse.
I would very much like to see the mosquito receive at least 1 hard aspect nerf. And I think it should be to their pursuit range. It is currently unreasonable.

well this one is getting old, but players should really learn how to build more bases........

Slow the hell down, look around, bow at a distance, sword 'n' board as they come in to ya...

*yawn*.....:steamfacepalm:

Destroy your bed and die and you will spawn back in the meadows.

A key thing I found was to always make a portal when I go places so I don't get stuck.

What level gear is on your corpse?

As said before, you might just need to invest in some backup gear for those corpse runs tailored for the environment you're in alongside of biome bases.

It would however, be nice to have the choice to create characters/worlds for two different types of gameplay - Softcore/Hardcore. If you're super casual and you get sick of spending half your gaming time doing corpse runs, there's always Gravekeeper.

Deathsquitos have 10 hp... you should NEVER try to run from them, but face them and hit them once with ANY weapon and they die, They have a predictable pattern of flying straight at a player then pause for a moment before they attack. It's best to shoot them with a bow at range, but if they get close just block and then hit them for the kill.

Deathsquitos have already had a nerf and it's likely they are not getting another one.

Its not my 1st run in the park and I have several alts at the edge of the world. The mosquito remains a matter of overkill and if the complaint pile seems excessive maybe its worth the weight of consideration. And ♥♥♥♥, I have hours in this game, I made it to the edge of the world and take the knocks like any other. Don't pretend to have an original solution. It has all been played through and done. Alts, castles, gear, bosses, and map coverage. Not an issue or solution for a player against a design problem.

The issue is a hard criticism against the death mosquito's mechanics. It is excessive. It is highly frustrating. It might be considered broken when compared to any other elements/experiences in Valheim. My 1 voice and vote to nerf specifically its following range.

If you are really that experienced then how could you possibly get yourself stuck at the edge of the world unable to craft a bow?

craft a backup set of gear to help recover your good gear
and a mace and bow and bunches of arrows

if its dark, wait at your house til morning (cook/craft/refining/farming)
eat good foods before heading out
go slowly, taking mobs a few at a time when you see them
til you get to your corpse, then port back home to swap out gear, repair and store backup gear again

deathsquitos do pack a punch, but have almost no health, any arrow or mace/ax hit can kill them
when you hear the buzz, turn toward it and swing
if you miss, stand still, it will circle you and attack heading straight toward you again
you cannot outrun them

The way to deal with a skeeter is to kill it.
Don't run, save your stamina, they always circle you about a 3\4 circle... just wait with your shield on block for them to strike, then kill them before they can fly off.
Once you get decent armor and food you can laugh at them.
I did land on a plains shore the other day and was hit by a 4 skeeter horde that killed me. That was a good for a lol.

Death by Mosquito's never gets old, but saying that I too died tonight by them .. I can cope with two hits from them and I wear Troll armour and a Lox cape but add the Fulings in the equation and I had a wtf moment.
Mosquito's have been nerfed to much, I prefered them when they were lethal, that buzzing sound would make your hair stand on end :).

You can 1 shot them easily with wood arrows.
Soren Nov 11, 2021 @ 10:03pm
The most annoying thing about those mosquitoes is they pretty much force you to have a weapon on your person at all times (I mean directly equipped). The 5% movement speed penalty is annoying, but having to wait for a flying around cycle from a mosquito because it ambushed you is more annoying.
_I_ Nov 11, 2021 @ 11:55pm
and the reduced movement speed with weapon equipped gives you more time to notice them while at a distance

until you are geared good enough to deal with a few stings, be prepared to die
the fulings can tear you up just as fast

I mean.. you could always craft a Bronze Atgeir and use the alt attack (360 degree spin) as they're coming at you.

Assuming they don't go "lol y axis ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" and hit you without being hit.

On a serious note, though, I'm entering Plains for the first time and I had to deliberately walk under a Deathsquito to get it to even see me. I'm using the Silver Shield, and once I saw it noticed me simply held the shield up until its attack, and then smacked it out of the sky.

I blocked all the damage and it barely rose my stagger bar at all. ~160 HP/150 Stamina at the time.

I did something to the Deathsquitos in my game with some modding and I regret nothing.

I replaced their buzzing sound effect with "Despasito" and as they get closer the music gets louder. "Deathpasquitos". It just adds a level of comedy to it.

Also, if you want to kill them easily, just use the stag breaker or iron sledge. The huge area of effect takes them out easily.

Also, ooze bombs work really well as the second the deathsquito enters the cloud it gets killed.
