Died and duplicated my gear
I died in plains... ugly spot.

Frustrated I went to my game saves and "restored" and old save. I didnt even know I could do this. Id not done it before.

When I loaded in I was in my base with all my gear. When I headed back out to plains I found my corpse with all my gear.... I duplicated everything..... full wolf set, smax silver sword/shield, max iron atgier, the belt, wishbone... everything.

Kinda sad about this really..... I just made death profitable...

This is why you accept death as a learning experience circumventing your problems to try and salvage issues can make us feel worse than if you just ran back.

Anyway just obliterate your old set and forget it happened.

Sad about what? Restoring a character's save from backups restores your character to the time of that other save. The loot from your corpse is in your world save.

If you're sad about cheating, you should have restored your world's backup too. Or try to get your loot yourself. Or forget about it and craft new equipment.
Just drop your duplicated items if you are frustrated about it.

If the question is not about fair play, then there are simpler and faster ways to cheat.

Just play as you like and have fun. Nobody forces you to use abuses or not to use them in the solo world. It is all your choice.

The mechanics of restoring saves itself is a very useful mechanic made to save your character or world in case of save corruption.

3 methods to prevent this :

rollback BOTH savefiles : character and worldsave. tough that is kinda bypassing the death penalty and definitly considering cheating basically as its not much different from useing commands to undo the dmg.

toss everything duped into the obliterator and turn it into like a few coal.

accept the death as a learning experience. the intended method.

That has happened to me too but as a bug and not as a save roll back. I was fighting a troll once and the game auto saved just as I got killed. I respawned at the stones instead of my bed, my food was still ticking, and I had all my gear (this was before the difficulty sliders were added).

When I went back to finish the troll I found a grave with another set of gear and a full backpack. The gear all had my name on it as the crafter.

Its because the world and character saves are different files, the character gets autosaved before the world does and the grave is on the world save instead of the character save.

was that on a server by chance?

yes, if you restore your old character, it has all its stuff on it, AND your corpse keeps all its stuff too. Your dead body is part of the world file, so if you want that gone, you can restore the world file, but if you do that, you lose anything and everything from crop growth time to junk you picked up to anything you changed in your chests and all. If you feel taking the gear is cheating, after cheating to get your stuff back, you can leave it or chunk it in the obliterator...

on corpses:
you can also smoke yourself to death in your home and leave a pile of corpses to use as large chests, as long as you are careful about cleaning them out and destroying the body.

When it happened to me, yes it was. It has happened to my wife too and in that case my machine was hosting on LAN.

yep, loading old saves after a death will cause this unless you load from both character AND world back ups. It makes everything synchronized and more enjoyable I think

not a problem itself unless you want duplicates of everything.

I check time and date of save and load both from same if I sense I was bullcrapped, I don't need 2 armors of each for solo...
