The Drakkar is garbage
What a clickbait-y title, huh?

But i mean it. That thing is garbage and I will tell you why.
There are two reasons, why i think it is garbage:
  1. BIG BOI! It is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ huge. Now, that isn't a problem on its own. It becomes a problem, when you consider, what this thing was created for:

    Navigating the Ashlands.

It is the only boat, that can safely navigate the Ashland seas, without bursting into flames.
So it is the only option we have.
Problem is, that the Ashland seas are full with these spires and rocks, that sometimes are so close together, that the Drakkar actually gets stuck.

The only way to get through it is, that you go slow, which causes you to get swarmed by those sea-serpents and vultueres, which brings me to the second point

  2. Fighting in this thing is NOT fun.
It is built in such a way, that shooting out of it, with a bow, is a hazzle to the point, where i'd say impractical.
Problem is, that you have to. I mean, what else do you have?
The issue also is, that these sea-serpents always get "stuck" UNDER the boat, where you cannnot reach them, where they rip your ship apart.

All in all, the experience is frustrating. It doesn't feel fun.
The irony is, that the Drakkar feels fun in ANY other sea, because the issues above are WAY less pronounced. However, given the fact, that it has been introduced to navigate the Ashland-seas, i can only say, that it sucks in its intended purpose.

I think it's the combination of the spikes and the dimensions of the ship which makes it ... well, I don't want to say frustrating, but it is not much fun actually.

The enemies all araound don't seem to be much of a problem as long as you don't get stuck totally.

But yes, once we reached Ashlands we totally avoided to sail that coast again. There was one tour to get some ore out of there, but afterwards we just went to setting up a stone portal for that purpose.

Could we please have a warship variant, with ballistas or something similar?

Yes, weapons on ships would be nice.

It is not like it is impossible to fight enemies, it is just frustrating, because of the ships dimensions. Things should not be frustrating.

Especially, if you are new to the Ashlands, you'll learn the VERY hard way. Nothing against challenge and we made it, but it did not feel "fun".

I'll add my 50 cents:
1. construction does not require fabric (leather, jute, anything else). It has a huge sail and zero fabric resources to build the sail.
2. it’s big, and it would be possible to carry animals there, but no, you can’t tie an animal and these stupid wolves or loxes will attack everything nearby, get lost and fall.

I love it and navigating it into Ashlands is just fun and skill based.

Drive it backwards, have Moder's power ready to pop in case you run into too much to handle. (That would probably be more than 2 birds AND 1 bonemaw, OR 4 birds, OR 2 bonemaw and any number of birds.)

it would've been nice if they could've added some kind of harpoon to the back of it so you could more easily grabbed the bonemaw and towed them in without using stamina

Animals just run off of it and into the water

I agree with most of what's been said, but I found that standing on the lip above the steps with my crossbow seems like the best way to fight the serpent. It was disconcerting at first, and I thought it was going to tear my boat apart, but the ship only took around 25% damage by the time I finally offed it. That includes a shot or two from my crossbow... :-)

I don't know what the issue is with the birds. I think that's actually an advantage to the boat, since there's plenty of room to swing a sword. I first tried taking them out with crossbow, but then realized that they were coming at me, not the boat, so I pulled out mistwalker, and then go down like nothing.

I got the crossbow to work ok with one bonemaw, but the second one in a row sank the ship. They spend a lot of time underneath where I can't get to them and it doesn't help that the arbalest reloads so slowly. If the head is popping up through the middle of the ship, I should be able to hit it, right? Nope.

I've heard people suggest frost arrows. I plan to try that next.

Wish I could just slap ceramic tiles on a karve. More solo support. Big ships always ask for more people.

i wish this ship had an actual use past sailing it to ashlands once. why ever use it again after you get stone portals?

To sail to Deep North, of course!

I would have disagreed. I love all the extra storage, which could make playing no-portal much easier, but now that I've sailed into Ashlands, I realize that sailing in and out of there multiple times is even beyond what I could stand, so, at the very least I'm going to be using a portal there.

I actually like the challenge of trying to get in there, and like how they're pushing us out of our comfort zone (not going to find a nice meadows staging area for Ashland), but it looks like Ashland could be the end of the road for no-portal play.

you ever used the catapult on a mountain yet with the feather cape? why sail when you can FLY OVER.

and thats a poor reason for the ship to exist overall btw. as its also only a one time trip then.

this ship should have been added at the plains already. not now. wasted design and effort.
