Valheim

Valheim

something I actually don't like about valheim
I am not a fan of the cooking and farming skill. Not sure if this is fan service or they really thought this good to put in.

The same affect of gaining extra resources and lower stamina use could have just been given as an armour affect and a set bonus. example, farm clothes decrease stamina use and the whole set gives chance at extra resource. cook clothes, decreases cooking time and set bonus gives chance at extra resource.

Having a whole skill tree seems very superfluous and unnecessary. Resources are not hard to find and when you do find them they usually come in a good enough quantity. Most things can be farmed permanently and are only limited by the space you want to occupy and resource demand. Is anyone really going to be planting a smaller crop just because they have 100 skill can reliably produce that extra resource?

And cooking, as said, a armour effect or set bonus could achieve the same result by just giving a chance of an extra item. Why and how does a skill, as we all know, can be grinded to 100 for that perk of highest chance to get a freebie, make this game funner? Please have at it, tell me how the cooking skill has made your playtime more fun especially If you don't think having a set bonus would be easier, more concise, simpler to manage since you lose skills on death, if you play default that is.

I must confess that I'm confused by these skills as well. Not sure what they're supposed to do. Getting an extra item every now and then?

Oooh... now I'm getting it. You're getting something extra. And I actually thought this to be a bug! :D

Well, fine by me then.
also building/crafting skill is another weird one, surely that could've been an armour set also.

why not add a sailing skill, that could've been useful. slightly better handling and speeds, larger wind radius.

Complaining about a skill that levels on its own as you play the game, that gives you stuff for free?

This is why we can't have nice things.
lol. I don't like it, make it a slider in the game

If that's the case, you should just download a mod and turn the experience modifier for that skill to 0.
ok cool. sarcasm aside.

Don't know if it was clear but I'm not against the benefits but why should there be a level for something so simple. simplify it further with armour bonus. cut out an unnecessary number level. Unless they really want to try get people's dopamine flowing with level up bollocks

I think that cooking has become a skill instead of a set bonus on a new clothing set is because it was less work to code the skill than it had been to design the armor set (maybe color variants, which might then even be questlocked (see the clothes we get from Hildir).

So they decided to add this as a skill. Which is okay for me. I like that better than an extra clothing set because I would have to put that into my inventory somewhere, store it somewhere, not get confused by having to change all the time between farming, cooking and going on an adventure. I'm pretty sure I'd end up walking into the ashlands in kitchen-clothing.
I wouldn´t want to constantly switch armors for everything. That would become annoying fast. Regarding the skills..I just ignore them for the most part but I happily take some bonus items here and there.

I don’t care about those skills.
It’s always nice to get something for free, but i’m not going to spend time leveling it up.

However, as someone already mentioned, sailing skill would be much more useful.
I used a mod that added sailing skill and i loved it. It increased sailing speed a little, increased exploration radius and increased ship health. Everything scaled up with the skill.
And while i really don’t care about ship health, a bit higher speed and exploration radius is nice reward for those who sail a lot.

I really feel this should be in the game and players would appreciate it more than cooking and farming skill.
iirc this was a much-requested feature adapted from a mod, so the weird complaint about it just goes to show that no matter what you do you're never gonna make everyone playing a game happy

Seconded.

I admit the farming skill is nice.
But cooking/crafting/building - what a load of garbage. There are such good mods out there and this crap is much requested?

The only skill that makes sense besides "farming" is "sailing". As someone has already posted.

Plant Everything is the thing! Maybe in some less invasive ways - but THAT should be vanilla. The download numbers speak for themselves.

But nobody requests something like Plant Everything?
I can't cope with that. Which TikTok kiddies vote for something like that?
If that is true you should somehow have at least 1.000 hours of playtime in order to be allowed to vote suggestion at all.
Weird thing to complain about.

Tbf I think the three skills were incredibly lazily thrown in with very little thought actually applied to them, though.

Having to swap to an armor set to cook or farm sounds like an awful alternative.
Pantstron Jan 21 @ 11:04am
Yet there already exists an armour set to swap out to.

Gisbert. Perfect word for it, garbage. Couldn't agree more.

Leave the skills in I suppose. Maybe one day I'll knock my socks off cooking 5 million boar and necks to level up, or craft an ocean of clubs can't wait.
What would the armor be? Chef's hat, wooden spoon weapon, and apron?
