Should I start a new world for 1.0?
I'm looking for a straight answer here but the question is at the end (context matters). I've searched online about this and content creators have been wasting my time saying "you should start a new world if you want that experience!" but this isn't answering my question.

I have a current world that is not explored all that much. I've recently discovered Bonemass and that is it. I have not found a Mistlands yet and nothing further either. This should mean generation of future biomes should be at a minimum (I expect some Mistlands to maybe have been generated further in map fog than I have explored) because I have not seen Mistlands physically or on my map yet. Lastly, I remembered in this games past, that you had to create a new world if you wanted to see the new content (ie the Mistlands update specifically).

Will I be safe to just not explore further and keep my world or will 1.0 change the game enough to where I'd be missing out if I wanted to keep playing my current world? Will my experience be nearly the same if not the same if I just keep playing my current world and not create a new one? You don't need to answer these individually as I'm asking more times to narrow down what I'm looking for. I likely will not be creating another world after my current if I do not have to as I have played this game enough in Early Access.

Yes, start new..... I just placed a quote from one of the devs recommending the same in another thread.

Imagine people who started before the bear was released. Yeah they could go back and kill it in their overpowered gear......but the bear is a major progression difference if you meet one on a new playthrough. I think there will be similar changes as far back as the meadows. Also all bosses will have a new cinematic.

If you want to experience valheim as intended..... how can you do that before its finished?

Why would they recommend this? I want that quote if you can find it. I will explain. Are they recommending because of the idea of starting from the beginning is a "magical experience"? Unfortunately, the vague response is dodging my specific question. So I heard that combat was overhauled and new things were added to past biomes. I created a new world and combat is nearly the same, bears were added to the Black Forest and giant tree monsters were added tot eh Swamps. That is not a lot different.

Maybe I should ask:
Why should I start a new world?
Will Deep North still generate in my current world (remember I am nowhere near it)?

you updated after my response. thank you for clarifying

"I 'think' there will be changes as far back as the meadows"
Is this for sure a thing? this game takes a lot of time. Is it worth another 100 hours of my life?

Lastly bears were not a huge change. The equipment they give gets outclassed in the next biome (Swamp). It is fun and niche but does not change the game in any meaningful way.

I want to state that I am not trying to sound like I am rage baiting or anything like that. This game takes a LONG time to progress through and starting over after starting a new world a year ago is not a small ask.

A new cinematic is content I would miss. This is the kind of stuff I am looking for.

You do not need to start a new world even if you explored deep north already. You can run a few devcomnands to regenerate it over what you explored.

The quote is just below this thread answering a similar question.

If you really do not want to start fresh you will be fine. It seems you really do not want to start new and are looking for confirmation that no one can give until it releases.

So yeah just continue your save if thats what you really want and I think what you miss will be minimal. But im a fanboy and I dont want to miss anything at all. :+)
thanks Soma. This is partly what I'm looking for.
You're correct in that if the biome and areas are unexplored then they will properly generate the new content once 1.0 is released. Biome generation does have a slightly extended range beyond the fog barrier on the map, so keep that in mind.

We currently do not know if 1.0 will change any other biomes besides Deep North. If it does, then it would require either a new world or you can update your world with a mod called UpgradeWorld. It basically provides options to regenerate previous biomes that have already been explored. My current world is from very early 2021 when the game first came out and I've used this mod for every major update since then with no issues and I plan to use it again for 1.0 since we explored some areas of Deep North back then.

When were these dev commands added? Last I remember this isn't an option with vanilla Valheim. It requires a mod.

I am referring to the genloc command (generate location?). I agree it is not as good as the genworld command from the Upgrade World mod. I think they added it just after launch.

I am at work so I let google do the answer for you as to what it does...

"The genloc command in Valheim redistributes all unplaced or unassigned game locations across the current world. It is primarily used to regenerate locations that failed initial placement due to terrain constraints or to update old worlds with new content added in recent patches, such as dungeons or points of interest that did not spawn correctly.

Function: It re-runs world location placement, attempting to seed any locations that were skipped during the original world generation.
Usage: It is often used to fix missing bosses (like Moder) or to add new biome features (like Ashlands or Mistlands content) to existing save files without starting a new world.
Limitation: It generally only generates locations in unexplored areas; for a full regeneration including explored zones, the Upgrade World mod is typically required. "

But the main point of my post is that apart from physical locations I think there will be changes to gameplay and progression like my bear example. I think Valheim will be playable on an old map....but I think the early areas need to be experienced from the start to feel the game progression. Since I play too much I will probably be doing both lol.
Here is the post from another thread where a dev recommends to start fresh: "There are changes to the entire world, so we can't 100% guarantee that you'll get all the changes with your current world..."

I recommend you wait. Or start now but do another start when 1.0 releases. Like I have said before...... a true valheim playthrough cannot be started until 1.0 drops since early game will have changes. The devs agree:

"The Deep North might be the last area, but Iron Gate considers 1.0 to be "a good base canvas to continue painting on." There's also plenty more polish, including cinematics ranging from the start through all of the bosses and up to the grand finale. Eyre says he recommends players start fresh: "There are changes to the entire world, so we can't 100% guarantee that you'll get all the changes with your current world..."

https://www.pcgamesn.com/valheim/1-0-deep-north-preview
Depends on what world or worlds you already have and possibly whether or not you've been to the Deep North. I'd recommend staying away from the Deep North in the world seed you care about the most in the event that discovering that biome upon the update and release, that part of the Deep North biome, or your world could bug or crash completely.
Cool. Anyone past this point go ahead and post comments as any info could impact decisions but...

I am going to start a new world. I plan on not playing much more other than slaying Bonemass as that was literally my next task. I will save the trophy's and use them as a start to my next world in 1.0 update. I will not care for missing small additions as for me, they aren't worth an entire new playthrough. But a new world seems like a good idea to make sure I have all the official content.

Thanks for posting detailed responses and I look forward to any additional posts that might enlighten me.

I started one about 2 weeks ago. I just killed the Elder and I know I have a longgggg way to go! But yes start one now if you don't grind this game daily and take breaks! I LOVE VALHIMEEEEEE. I need to also get some mods like the backpack mod and the armor and item slot mods, but I'm not sure if I get achievements if I use nexus... Hmmm.
Here is what they said about the Ashlands before they patched it in. If this helps: https://valheim.com/support/getting-ready-for-the-ashlands/

So genloc is more useful for minor corrections to missing locations, etc, whereas UpgradeWorld still serves a practical purpose for explored regions. Good to know.

That's fine. I understand everyone has a different opinion on starting fresh with so much content being added. My friends and I simply have too much invested in our current world that we aren't interested in "starting over". Also, I personally do not have interest in restarting in RPG / survival / crafting style games like Valheim.

How far have you gotten in Valheim?
