Frost caves lesson
I just spent two hours looking for a Frost Caves and collected everything. I left everything in the interior entrance of the cave to secure them. I went to bed in the bed that I had placed in front of the cellar with a fire, then the next day when I woke up... there was nothing left of what I had left on the edge of the interior entrance of the cave. Really disappoint. The lesson is bitter

Throwing any looted items near the entrance of any instance, is the fastest method to despawn items. When people ask, "What is the quickest way to get rid of junk you do not want if unable to use the Obliterator? I always tell them, "Throw it down near the entrance of an instance, Burial Chamber, Troll Cave, Sunken Crypt or Frost Cave. It will disappear after a day cycle, or log off."

Why would you think that leaving items on the ground is a viable method to secure them for future use? Why would you not leave them on your character, or secure them inside a chest. You can even leave items in the chests inside instances, they will remain there until removed by a player.

Aww, that sucks - but now you know not to do that anymore. Don't worry, there's more ice caves and frost lakes to discover. :)

It's not limited to the entrance of caves, any item dropped outside the influence of a worktable will vanish, bare that in mind. AFAIK if you DO want to preserve dropped items anywhere, just make a worktable real quick and place it nearby. Obv thats not possible in building restricted areas.

What is said above is correct: items lingering on the floor outside a workbench radius will despawn, *however* it usually takes much longer than a simple night for this to happen. I throw garbage around my bases all the time but it easily takes 3 or 4 days before they effectively disappear.

most games items not properly stored disappear after a while

I hadn't planned to come across a frost cave and my portal was far away. I admit learning by mistake to spice it up and not looking for the tricks. But this time it hurts lol. Thank you for your comments and advice !! ära till odin !

When you say instance.... what you mean about that? Is there anything else besides b-chambers, T.caves and those tombs in the swamp?

How do you have 1k hours, and made this mistake?

Just some info, Frost Caves always have a few chests, store it in there if you have nothing else to store it into.

because it's the first time that I leave my objects on the floor, so I didn't learn about it before for this reason. and I have not been to see a tutorial to impose a challenge on myself, so I learn by my mistakes

you can build a campfire though which should keep items from despawning in its vicinity in a cave/interior

Clever Vikings travel with portal mats, items for a fire, wood for a small building, potions and other emergency supplies. Thinking ahead means fewer slots for random stuff you pick up but so many more options if you want to do dungeons or set up for them from BF onwards. Makes exploring much more efficient.

Alternative to camp fire. Next time, go back inside the wolf cave. Smash up some doors for wood, come out place workbench and a chest (if you want to be tidy), dump your stuff in it.
Enjoy.

Clever Vikings rip down all wall hangings, any small door curtains, destroy all doors, fire cauldrons, torches, bones, etc., and anything else they find in the caves for iron, bronze, cloth, entrails and wood. Not doing that means you wasted your time in there. Folks complain there isn't enough Fenris hair when they leave up to 30 bits of it in each cave.
