I have tamed boars, but have yet to eat any of them.
I have tamed lox, but since they do not breed, I don't eat those either.
At no point did I ever feel a need for taming wolves.
The occasional night spawns of Fulings outside of the Plains are never a problem to kill and the night spawn Fuling patrols don't bother me when I'm at home on the Plains.
By all means do so if you want to, but do you need to? Nope ;)
But you need a few if you dont want to loose them
As rough number i would say take 10 2 Stars with you in a Village
The wolf is the weakest Mountain creature, and one wolf is dominated by every Plains creature. A lot more is needed for the pack to work at any effective level in the Plains.
Concerns with wolf pack:
1. Lack of food to heal and breed. Other than the lox (I *think* wolves eat lox meat), there's no other food source in the Plains. And lox AOE easily kills lots of wolves.
2. Inability to precisely target wolf pack movement and attacks. There's only the command for a wolf to stay or follow. When following, they'll most likely be a few meters behind. I don't believe it's possible to tell a wolf to attack a shaman or spear Fuling in the distance.
What wolves might be good for is as a source of distraction for the enemy, if playing solo.
