Sorry but what you described is exactly what should happen..If you put an item on a red its going to break. Sometimes you can place the item and quickly place in another to reach the ground and create a new line of support but you need to make sure it reaches something better then red.. You are probably doing this so it snaps in the place you want.... Instead build a temporary support nearby from ground up then put in the final support.
My guess is that this is the problem.
you can use the hoe to build the ground up to where your wood flooring is when it stays blue its connected to the ground. i often used this in early game to build bridges that allowed boats to travel up rivers etc. just like bridges in the real world that have their main supports build on raised ground. many large bridges even have supports that are allowed to move around on the sand and pebble foundations during earth quakes, in the game you can take this kind of thing and apply it and it doesn't look half bad atleast just use the hoe and raise long thin towers of ground up high and then build the bridge supports out from them
make sure the gap has more than enough room to allow the ships sail mast to traverse as it will make contact and cause damage to both the ship and the bridge
hugs x
You can read that article for the details on building stability. Long story short, purely wood structures will only be stable up to four building pieces from foundation. With basic wood, this doesn't get you very far. With core wood, you can make individual beams/poles that span 4m, giving you more reach. Even then, there is a limit to how ambitious a structure you can build.
If you want a bigger building, you need to expand your foundation. Either build up the terrain using your hoe or lay down stone/iron-wood pieces, which maintain a high stability, even several pieces away from ground.
It would be nice, so you can hang a house off a overhang of some sort, but not in this game.
This was why. Thankyou and I will take no questions.
