Multiplayer creative mode
I'm trying to understand something.
I created a new game locally, made it a server and my kids can connect fine

When I run devcommands I can start God mode, spawn etc etc.

But my kids cannot, I understand this is intended behaviour but please can someone explain if
1) does God mode, ghost etc work for all on the game or just the admin who typed it
2) does adding admin to the adminlist.txt actually do anything, maybe I did something wrong, can someone tell me if they have successfully added another to admin list and they have been able to use devcommands?

Regarding 2) I though I added one of my kids to the list but he was not able to run commands successfully, kept getting the "??not in the context??" Message

Thanks

pretty sure only the server host can run dev commands, as on a dedicated server it’s impossible to run them at all. The only way to change this is run mods on the server giving access to them if you want everyone to be able to use them

You might also need to add their Steam IDs to \AppData\LocalLow\IronGate\Valheim\adminlist.txt

@Mharr
That's exactly what he did if you read his post again. ;)

Oh. :D Okay yeah, the admin thing is necessary but not sufficient. You need that *and* mods designed to allow dev command usage.

Agh that's poop. Just want a creative mode that we can turn on / off without mods.
Oh well I'll just have to spawn enough stuff for everyone to use...

I also run devcommands on my server, but you do have to be admin for it to work, so you'd have to give your kids admin rights before they can use them commands, My buddy and I do have working commands but the non admins on the server do not, you just need to add their ID into that list, can have them join the server and press f2 and I take a screen shot and alt+tab and type it all in. I had to add the devcommands because we had some guy on my server randomly teleporting and spawning in stuff and we want to play normal with a few little mods like Mass farming or dual wielding and that person knew before joining but didn't do as we asked.

Thanks for reply, so if I add the SteamID to adminlist.txt and they should be able to use the devcommands? Obviously I have to add -console to valheim game options but then it should work??

idk if its a steam id of any sort, I just know if you go into your server and press f2, you'll see a bunch of number after the users name, thats the numbers you want to add to the adminlist, I just added the numbers for each user, I didn't type the users name as I didn't know if adding anything else other than the id would make the list not work. I also never enabled the console, I just type it in chat, like /god and it'll enable godmod or /fly and it'll enable flying, but your kids will also need to have the Devcommands mod installed for it to work as well, The server would just ignore the devcommands if they don't have it installed.

Ok I'll take a look when we play next thanks!!
It sounds like your using a mod for devcommands which might be where I come unstuck as I am not using the mod, just straight up -console and "devcommands" in game.

We will see. Thank you

If you do need mods, Infinity Hammer is another option. Requires admin rights the same as other devcommand mods, but simply puts the hammer into creative mode able to build anything forever without resources or restrictions.

The replies you got above are false. Adding your kids to the adminlist.txt simple makes it so they can execute admin commands like kicking and banning. It does not give them access to dev commands. Only the host can run those (although I recall seeing some mods that claimed this functionality a while back).

Thanks for clear reply, seems like I need a mod then for devcommands
