Too easy to destroy boats and move them
One of my biggest complaints with the game is how easy it is to just beat down your boat, take all the materials through a portal, and rebuild it. Maybe destroying a boat shouldn't drop the nails, or anything at all.

I didn't expect nails to be able to go through portals when i started playing. I see where you're coming from but the world's so damn huge and there's already a thousand other things to think about in this damn glorious game. I was just thinking today that what I'd like is to be able to mark my boat and have it locked to it so i can keep track of them all.

Except for the cart every thing else in the game can be deconstructed using the hammer if you are in workbench range. The fact that you can't do this to ships and carts is more of an issue.

I think the same. On the one hand, it's freaking convenient, and not being able to teleport and build a boat would be a giant pain in the bum. On the other, every time I build a base I start building a nice dock before realizing that it was a waste of time, since every time I come back I'll just destroy my boat.

i find it hilariously goofy that nails can go through portals but the bar used to make them cant. same with weapons, armor etc... hilarious.

bruh, being able to move your boat easily is one of the reasons im not raging about this game. If I wasnt able to move my boat, this game would be so much harder, and less amazingly fun.

I think the preparation for sea voyages would just change. You would carry the non-teleportable materials in your hull to make any number of long ships at potential high interest destinations. This would turn into second nature, on par with having portal mats on you.

You won't destroy your boat & teleport it to a destination. Instead you'll just use some mats in a chest next to your portal at the destination in question to build another boat.

I built a jetty/dock and keep a Karve parked there all the time, very few GD swim out and around the jetty to enter the harbor to destroy anything...I've also parked Karves out exploring in open water and it's a little more dicey to keep them intact but it works....

I don't think losing materials is a good solution to deconstructing your ships for safety reasons...because it's too 'easy'. The mere fact you have to dismantle it by force, is annoyance enough.

Nope; I'd stop playing single player, and designate one (or more) of my coworkers teammates to guard the boat. No more breaking it, if we can't easily rebuild it.

... actually, I'd probably just give up on this game entirely. "Playing" is already a chore; if all else remained the same but boats became a less feasible option than they already are... I'd go play something that feels less like a second job and more like a game.

by logic of not allowing bronze or iron nails through portals, you shouldn't be able to teleport with any tools, weapons or armours. it'd be tedious.

That would make them borderline useless yeah. There is an argument to be made for runs without portals at all, I may be interested in that in some future run. But that's definately not everyones cup of tea and is beyond the scope of this discussion.

This might sound crazy, but hear me out...

Sea portals.

Portals big enough to sail a ship through.

...Okay, it might sound silly, but still.

It is what it is. It's fine for most, I like it as is. For those that don't like it, and is ruining the game for you--move on and come back when it's out of EA.

I'm fine with it, i find the ore issue tedious enough thanks. :tank:
Shaken_Widow Apr 13, 2023 @ 8:24am
you're talking about destroying your boat just to move to an area where you already set up a portal as if transporting ore is the only thing the boat is for.

how did you get that portal there to begin with if it was on a far away island? - your boat.

the main purpose of the boat is exploration, its only a side bonus that it can be used to transport ores.

i mean, if you're complaining about being able to pick it up and go through a portal to build it there so you can bring the ore back, why don't you complain about world hopping which literally makes using the boat for transporting useless?

Bruh...this just sparked my imagination for builds so hard. Buuuut, they would have to make some easier way to build on ocean, like some kind of air filled bladder you could plop down to build platforms on.
