I use nexus for everything but Satisfactory - they have their own. I'm not going to download a dozen mod managers just to mod my games, I'd rather do it manually if I have to put up with politics. Nexus allows you to have a centralized location to store all your mods instead of putting them all on your game drive and then hard/soft linking them to your game drive, this saves actual space on your game drive for games. I don't know if you can do that with thunderstore or if it even supports complex configurations. But the fact that thunderstore only supports unity games - bepinx, it limits your game modding potential.
As for simple, thunderstore is simple cause it only does one thing: mod unity games.
Nexus is a mess of UI for sure and it gets tangled if you don't know what you're doing in it, but it supports more complex modding requirements and most game engines.
Also this is not competition as is not at production level but on distribution level.
So simply some mods are split in two different repository.
Modders need to upload on both, or select one.
And for the second... now whatever repository you select you miss some of the mods.
Manual install is the easiest way to have all the mods, and this defeats the idea of a repository.
Didn't think of that, some modders adding in spyware n junk.
Pretty bad idea for any game to be so blind to their modding that they let people add trojans to the mods because of how poor their modding support is.
please remember that as of now modding is not officially supported. It's done at your own risk, there are no guarantees for future compatibility. Please keep backups of your save files before you start modding. If you need technical support, please always include a full list of active AND prior mods, since that can influence the game's behaviour with regard to bugs.
Have a good day!
The downside of manual is tracking versions and updates yourself, but since the managers suck at this anyway it's moot. Nexus website let's you track new versions of mods you follow, but of course you have to be logged in - and they auto log you out often enough it becomes worthless. Thunderstore tracks updates as "upload N ago" instead of the uploaded date, which is a PITA and you have to track version number instead.
Roll on version 1 release w/ official mod support.
What is going to happen with modding in the future?
It seems to bring a crowd.
As far as I know, Iron Gate has a positive attitude towards modding. But as long as the game code is actively being worked on, it just doesn't make sense to focus on mod compatibility for every new update.
The topic has its own mega-thread in the Suggestions sub-forum where you can add your voice:
https://steamcommunity.com/app/892970/discussions/2/5064850575731195923/
I see no need to join a megathread on everyone wanting modding to the game if the devs are not going to bother.
:S
For real!
I feel like they are acting like Karen's at a church bake sale.
Hey,
I'm Dana, from Overwolf, and I came across your comment :)
First, I want to clarify that Overwolf and the apps on its platform are completely safe and secure.
As for mods in Thunderstore - the Thunderstore team is responsible for moderating the uploaded content independently of Overwolf.
Please feel free to reach out to me and my team if you have any more questions or concern.
Thanks!
You just cope your profil code and send it to you friend, and they then download your mod list, and it just works, no need to tinker with loading orders and stuff.
Thunderstore, is a "noob" friendly mod mananger.
Additionally updating is much easier as when you v loaded your profile it will say up top that there are updates, once clicked it will give you a list of all mods being updated and simultaneously update all mod in one click.
Side notes the database is a very nice touch to have on the launcher itself meaning you don't need the website to find mods its all rather centralized
All in all its a much easier platform to use almost like steam, centralized storefront, with build it mod section, same premises, just without the store front. nice thing is you can choose to start modded or vanilla, launcher takes care of the rest.
