Valheim

Dedicated server crashing every few hours
Problem was initially every couple of days, now it's practically every couple of hours...

Game will crash and disconnect, attempting to connect won't work at all.

I have an AWS lightsail instance running setup with these instructions:

https://aws.amazon.com/getting-started/hands-on/valheim-on-aws/

Error log seems to have this:
12/17/2022 01:21:20: World saved ( 1066.816ms ) 12/17/2022 01:21:20: Considering autobackup. World time: 23404.7, short time: 7200, long time: 43200, backup count: 4 12/17/2022 01:21:20: No autobackup needed yet... 12/17/2022 01:31:16: Connections 0 ZDOS:357729 sent:0 recv:0 Unloading 0 Unused Serialized files (Serialized files now loaded: 0) src/steamnetworkingsockets/clientlib/steamnetworkingsockets_lowlevel.cpp (1873) : Assertion Failed: SteamnetworkingSockets service thread waited 2101ms for lock! This directly adds to network latency! It could be a bug, but it's usually caused by general performance problem such as thread starvation or a debug output handler taking too long. ... [about a thousand of these messages spammed, eventually leading to] ... src/common/pipes.cpp (883) : fatal stalled cross-thread pipe.

Has anyone encountered this? Any ideas what's happening?

I also have this error in the logs for my dedicated server. It's been going on for a month or two now, had been running fine for 9 months before that.

I'm wondering if it's due to increased RAM usage in newer versions of Valheim. I'm using a VPS on DigitalOcean with 4GB, it could be swapping causing a delay that triggers the crash. It seems to happen when the world is autosaving.

I might try going up to a VPS with more RAM just to test the theory out. It'd be nice for someone from IronForge to chime in though.

Moving from 4GB to 8GB appears to have fixed the crashing behavior. It now also costs me twice as much per month. =|

Yeah, I ended up having to give up hosting on my own AWS instance and paying for g-portal.
