Fish Quality

Can anyone explain to me what the numerical value in fish quality actually means gameplay wise beyond their physical size?

I thought perhaps they would give that many 'raw fish' when skinned at the cauldron, but no...

think the higher the quality, the more raw fish you get and more bait you can make.

Size is not a part of the value. Upper right it gives a 1-4 value of the fish. I know that 1 = one raw fish. And it goes up from there. Tuna used to always give 4 raw fish but now a level one tuna gives just 1 raw fish, as do all the rest. So your job since you are interested is put a single level 2 fish in your inv and go play with the cauldron and report back.

Ah I see, they do give more raw fish at higher levels. I guess I missed that the first few times I tried with higher quality fish.

yea and it has no effect on bait, so drop the 1s in a box before you cut the others up, use the 1s for bait.

The quality also affects the size of the fish. Useful for when you want to put them on display, or lay out a feast on a table.

i gotten a quality of 5 of a pike

quality 5 equal 5 fish but it is very freaken rare if you manage to catch one . an they drain the hell out of your stam

i just put a number 3 perch in the cauldron and got 7 raw fish, ive had the number 2's give me 4 raw fish

Yeah I think its a bit random, which is why I was confused originally and made the post.

Those numbers are bogus. Level 2 pike gives 4. Someone reliable should probably test it. I would but don't have access to all the fish on save I am on now.

The quality level is in fact 1 to 4 but that isn't how many fish you get.
Using a low level fish for bait is good info.
