How to create underground cave in meadows as tunnel instead of hole?
I see once i start mining in the side, the hole becomes larger instead of creating a tunnel..

How to make tunnels instead of making it large hole(looking from the top)?

look for a big stone and dig under it. so that the stone rests on the left and right. As far as I know you can't dig tunnels at the moment.

You can only dig down and not horizontally into and under the terrain. As Schmowu mentioned, you can dig down and then under large objects (copper ore boulders, large boulders, POI structures).

I think you can dig a hole and build a roof for it, makes for a cheap tunnel but no dirt over it to hide.

To answer your question..
You can't make tunnels in dirt.

Sadge.. and people praise this game so much... oh well.. maybe they will make tunnels someyear. After full game release.

C'mon, the game is still in development. And tunnels aren't that big of a thing, after all, this is a viking game, not a dwarf game.

i'd imagine its to help save on resources, i could be right or wrong on that though. but it seems like just calculating elevation with nothing overhead for terrain would be far simpler to process.

Unfortunately no way to dig tunnels, but the ground is also limited to how deep you can dig or how high you can raise it.

You can make a narrow „valley“ and build something on top.

I seem to remember a player who dug out the area UNDER the Elder spawn point and turned it into a large portal room.

If you prefer an underground base, find one of those spawn points near the coast, dig it out and you got what you want.

Well, at least until that boss spawns there. :)

The game uses a "Height Map" system for its terrain modification. This only supports up and down and will never support tunneling.

I suggest you look to games like Minecraft an Terraria if you want to dig tunnels. Valheim will never support it so long as it continues to use Height Maps.

Josh from "Lets game it out" did it too. He also spawned multiple elders. XD

I've got an under a big rock base & an under an Elder spawn base, both work fine and you get some really fun organic feels with the under a big rock approach. Just one caution digging under a rock, it's super easy to accidentally chip a section out of your rock, so go slow.

One cool thing also, you can use the big trees in the swamp biome as shelter. You can even make a treehouse there without any risk of breaking the structure.

I've gotten lucky and found copper nodes and large boulders in contact with each other in hilly Black Forest areas. As you said, go slow and you can whittle out some decent sized pockets with stone roofs. However, I believe a Troll is capable of bringing down the house! lol
