The axe has been nerved so far i see that, but since i made a 3 month long break my memory is maybe flawed
Yeah i don't know if the tool axe was nerfed but i'm not sure if it suffers from similar problems like in minecraft or other survival games where tool axe is just reliable tool/weapon than the sword is.. It just depends since i haven't played any survival games outside Valheim and Minecraft.
But thats only a feeling based on 3+ Months old memorys
The blackmetal one can now parry loxes, 0* fulings and berserkers. I can pretty much one-shot a fuling with a single jab after a parry. Or double jabs w/o parry because the first will almost always cause a stagger.
The longer range could also be useful against fuling spear throwers since you can't parry them anymore for an opening attack.
Spear primary attack can actually pump out a lot of damage during a stagger, but the alt attack is complete and utter garbage holding it back. Damage for THROWING your weapon out of your inventory + having to go retrieve it/risk losing it based on terrain is simply not worth it; if it auto returned after 6-8 sec and the weapon range being 2M instead of 1.8M it'd be fine.
So its main use is for hunting in the meadows. Though is a better weapon for Eikthyr than the axe as the axe is too slow to get a 3 hit combo between the boss' attacks so geting 3 jabs from the spear is better. Other than that you can use spears for killing trolls in melee as they are weak to pierce damage but don't forget to take a step forward after parrying them before attacking becasue you will get knocked back a little.
And in the Plains you can use a Fang spear for killing Lox until you get your hands on the Porcupine.
That's about it.
The fast stun move could also be good vs wolves.
Spear is really bad indeed.
The only thing spear does somewhat well is chasing deer, because you can throw and pick up the spear again on the run unlike the bow that you need to draw.
and using and axe to fight is droping good combos of another weapon , and how its a tool , have far way less durability than a sword or mace , i just drop then in iron age because mace or sword are far way better in that point
im not fan of atgeir because their stamina consume , and for CC control i preffer 2 hands hammer , its pretty fast if you spam the area attack , and if you have very high blunt skill do really good damage
still not tested the buff of other 2 handed weapons so maybe ill give them another try
Yeah, spear is good when you stumble nose to nose on a deer, and it can be thrown at point blank range, meaning that you immediatly retrieve it. I believe the aiming was worsen a bit, but before H&S, it was like a magic missile at medium range!
Against grey dwarves in the stone age, well it's my favorite weapon when I'm sure to not be staggered (i.e. not to use against brutes): because of its high stagg damage, it can disable completely a shaman or a 2 star-grey dwarf because the animation is fast (and draining). Also, it's not totally a one-tip hit-box weapon, If you aim between two close enemies (or more probably just by chance), they will be both hit by this rather high damage weapon.
also i question existence of great axe.
The spear needs a whole different moveset, just looks silly using it. 2h axe is way too slow for me.
