Food Crafting...
...is annoying as heck.

I understand that the Workbench and Forge does not allow the queuing up of crafts... but why do I have to keep click for every food item also? Either there is a way... and I am just simply to dumb to see/find it...

... or I would like to suggest that there is a way so we can queue up the crafting of stuff where players make more then one.

I hope it was obvious, that what I meant to talk about in this thread... was not planting stuff... which is quite interactive and... I was talking about the Cauldron and possibly later the Bakery(I am not there yet...).

What I would like to suggest is a way similar to other games where you can select the amount of things you want to cook/bake and then hit the "Craft Now!" button and your character cooks up each item one by one without you having to keep mouse-press that UI repeately.
Failing that, why not add a button on the keyboard that one could press... and making it so when you click the "Craft Now!" while crafting so it doesn't reset the process...

You were pretty clear but some started to move the topic off to all their personal gripes. I wasn't kidding about using it as a beer break as most of the game requires two handed participation to avoid pitfalls. I also agree that building big stacks of cauldron grub can get old quick - particularly if one has been selected to be the chef for several players.

Since the devs have only semi-automated ore processing (and kept it in small lots) it may be they have a purpose in this particular manual mechanic. One might guess they were quietly discouraging mass production in order to keep players from filling chest after chest and then ignoring the whole harvest/hunt/breed/prep process for extended periods of time. Many of my own discoveries were made while I was working the food angle.

I think much of the devs' game design revolves around a so-called balanced diet of activities as a core tenet. At the same time they still allow anyone to pick and choose how they play. For example, classic item hoarders are free to pile up huge mounds of stuff, be it food, gear, resources, etc. but they have to either mod the game or put in the time grind. I myself have eschewed sailing for the most part and am footslogging my way as far as I can while staying in the Bronze Age - it's still fun after about 2400 game days on my 1st and only world seed. Lots of people create their own challenges, like no death playthroughs or no portals.

That being said I don't have a issue with an enabled batch cauldron processing but would prefer if it was itself an expensive upgrade in the vanilla game.

I apologize, I never meant to derail the thread, I'll say my last piece here, and tie it back into your points. (to me, it does all tie together)

The bakery works like the cooking stations you roast meat on. You have a wait while the bread bakes, then a limited time to grab the finished food before it burns to coal. It can cook 4 products at a time, and burns wood faster than a campfire.

And planting itself was never my problem, Planting barley specifically is. Or, more to the point, the fact that it takes hundreds of barley to craft a handful of food. One stack of bread alone costs 100 barley flour. Add to that the fact that 4 of the top tier foods need barley flour, and it means you are planting and harvesting FAR more than you do for carrots, turnips, or onions.

Planting flax is similar, but you get to a point where you have all the linen thread you can use, and then you really don't need to plant more flax. Barley needs never stop (at least until the mistlands foods are released)

Then you have to mill the flour (not an issue, it is automated) then use the cauldron (with all the issues you bring up) and THEN bake, (more waiting)

All in all, very tedious and time consuming. At least when you are hunting and gathering, there is some risk involved. Farming/cooking/baking is just a time sink.

I agree with your assessment that a cooking queue would greatly help reduce the tedium of this process. To me it isn't the most annoying part, but it is one of the easiest to remedy.
