Can trolls randomly spawn and destroy your base?

would you be willing to not have other players come into your server. and or not take anything out that server for trade and or use to fight in other servers.? that would tbh be the only trade point id be willing to accept for such toggles. risk vs reward is a huge feature they have quite balanced in their game system

Absolutely, I don't want other players on my game, I'm going to conquer this thing on my own. All I want is one base left alone.

Twice now the attack stopped after they took out the workbench. So if you see an attack coming try building a workbench outside your walls and let them destroy it to see if they stop attacking your base. Kind of an exploit but if it saves hours of rebuilding its worth it.

I've had multiple "ground shaking" troll attacks within a few hours, so it appears to be random, and intensity (or difficulty) might have something to do with boss kills, as I no longer get the "forest is moving" attack.

There's nothing you can really do to stop them, and in fact, it's better to leave your walled base altogether and attack the trolls out in the open, because otherwise they'll just destroy all of your stuff to get to you. Soon as you step outside of your safe space, they'll come to you and leave your buildings alone, which is much more preferable, imo, as I would rather not have to rebuild everything I spent a lot of time on.

I had the invasion happen earlier, 3 trolls all spawned, but my wood wall and spikes kept them from destroying anything important, especially the spikes, they loved to focus on them rather than the wall.

Train your bow skill, craft the best bow possible for your tech level, then lure the trolls away from your structures and take them out. If you're at the stage when trolls are invading, you should already have the pickaxe from the first boss. Craft yourself a bronze axe as soon as possible, go chop some birches and pines for fine wood and core wood respectively, and craft a Fine Bow. Upgrade that thing as high as you can, get some flint (or bronze if you have lots of bronze lying around already) arrows, and keep them on yourself at all times. With a bow skill of 25+ and this equipment, pairs of trolls will go down fast.

For static defence, I really recommend a good moat or at least a double layer of wooden log spikes around sensitive areas like your most complex buildings full of precious loot. Those vertical log spikes have a decent amount of health and cost relatively little wood to rebuild when destroyed. It should slow the trolls down long enough for you to dps them down. If you can spare the core wood, Sharp spikes are a nice bonus. They are quite fragile, but will do lots of extra damage to the trolls before going down. Once you have unlocked the cultivator and stacked up on pine cones, you can regrow pine trees anywhere, including right next to your base. This will spice up the scenery and make for a convenient and near endless supply of core wood to keep rebuilding sharp spikes after invasions.

If you're not willing to ruin the scenery with defensive structures, you're gonna need to become a pro at kitting the trolls and luring them away. But don't despair. Initially they are scary, but by the time you're reached late Bronze Age even 2 star trolls become laughably easy to deal with. It's just a matter of walking away from their blows, managing your stamina and picking them off with the bow. Hunt down as many trolls as you can. Get used to fighting them, use their hides to craft yourself some decent armour (Bronze armour is better, but takes longer to farm.)

I wonder what triggers this, those are none of the normal invasion groups. I have 120 hours and this never happend. And if there is a small chance that the invasion can be way worse then normal, I wonder what the other invasions have in store :)

Dig a moat around your base. NPCs aren't smart enough to jump over it. There's really only one siege event that I've seen that can do anything about it and even then it's a pretty weak one / later in the game.
