Best way to support a large roof?
Example of said roof
So i have wood poles pretty much from the ground up but as i start the roof they turn red about where i am now, should I make 4 poles from the central cooking station up and branch them out as a Y shape?

Wood has a maximum height of 8 objects. I was helping someone try to build a tall structure last night and the tallest portions kept failing due to low stability. They eventually got it worked out somehow. I'd try the poles since they are longer and since you use less of them to reach the same height as other parts they should maintain stability longer. From what I read recently the base of whatever you're using for stability needs to touch the ground in order to have maximum stability for the stack of parts.

Guess this is why vikings built longhouses instead of tall houses... lol.

Lol All wooded pole support are indeed in the ground. Cohh Carnage built a HUGE structure well over 8 tall last night, was insane. Currently working on my Y supports to test it, if itd stop raining lmao.

You need LOTS more beams and a lot more pillars. Pillars at the 4 corners of the cooking area, floor to ceiling and linked to each other at a couple of levels with beams, for a start. Even if you overestimate the number of Rafters, crossbeams, diagonal beams and x-type supports that you think you need... overestimate again. :)

Keep checking your stability with the hammer, make sure the base supports are blue when you mouse over them. If not then they aren't in the ground.

I took a second look at the website where I found the 8 parts info. I think the 8 parts high thing is when using walls with no supports. A player did a build test with walls and that was the maximum unsupported. That said I've found when building anything over 8 wood parts high I start to have stability issues but I don't go crazy with supports so maybe that's my problem.

It's far easier to build lower structures, longer structures, but I understand why people want to try making huge buildings. See that in Conan Exiles all the time, unnecessarily massive builds. Not surprised players want to do the same here.

Completed

This is what the finished product is, from my foundation up is 8 high using 26 degree beams and roofs.

Looks like it worked well, and it actually looks quite good.

Now THAT is what I call a nice bit of construction.
