White = less than yellow but I dunno exactly what and
Grey is really high resists
A 0 is self explanatory - like a drake trying to cold damage a stone golem. Futile.
I don't really know much except that if it is yellow damage number you are doing fine, white is OK and grey is the wrong weapon.
Need different weapons for different enemies so it depends what you are hitting with what weapon as to whether your assumption has any merit or not. Need a combat training dummy or something similar to test on and not just random enemies.
I never noticed or cared about the number values on weapons I just made sure to try to upgrade the ones I have to the best I could.
I just shot a troll for 470 damage and that was yellow text which is why I suspect yellow may be crit damage.
