Please Disable Decay of Building Parts!
I just noticed that even though my building is very stable, blue on the bottom walls and green everywhere else, the pieces have an automatic decay. I do not want my work destroyed by automatic and very rapid decay. I have to walk around every day with a hammer clicking every single piece of wood on my house to repair it.

This is a deal breaker for me.

It shouldnt happen if its protected by roof.

My wood items don't decay as long as they have a roof, and are in the crafting circle, also I read once you get to stone buildings they don't decay, I am not 100% on that just something i read, will def. have to test it out, so the further you get in, the more quality of life with stone buildings :)

I'm on day 60 and nothing in my building has decayed.

another thread said itll only decay to ~50%, but im not sure if thats true. but as the person above said, if its covered by a thatch roof it wont decay

Just build it to last

You must be missing a roof; it prevents decay from rain. A 'floor' piece (the flat wooden sections) used as a roof does not count and certain parts (like gates and palisades) wont decay when exposed.

So try throwing a roof up.

Creature attacks can also reduce the durability of your buildings, but those are no surprise.

There is no decay if you protect it properly, wood doesnt like rain, build thatch or stone over it. Also rain only brings it down to 50%.

I see alot of people using wooden floors as roofs, and they will decay in rain as intended. You're supposed to use thatch roof to rainproof buildings.

Floors make bad roofs. So if you are using Floors as a roof then it will leak and soak the inside of the building. Causing decay of wooden objects below. As has been said If you use a actual roof tile it will work. The game is very real based.

If you want some fun look up a Norse Long House. for some design inspiration. :)

I don't have floors for roofs.

All my walls from head level down are blue structurally, all above are green. No orange, no yellow anywhere. They are very well built.

The problem is, you can't get a roof above everything while you're building and it rains so frequently, there is no way to have a roof above everything. With this system, you can't even have steps leading up to your house because they too will dissolve when it rains. IT takes only minutes after rain falls for 100% floors and walls, under structure, etc. to decay to 50%.

I know how it works, I'm saying it needs to be changed or at least have a server option like other games that do this.

50% damage from rain after 2 minutes to wood is not "real based".

ive noticed random pieces of wood decaying even though theyre fully covered by roofing. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the pieces affected.

Sorry, I'm going to be very blunt here. Clearly you're not building properly if you have to repair daily or after every storm. This isn't a game mechanics issue, it's an issue with your build. I've got over a dozen builds and not a single one needs repairs after it rains. If you're near the ocean or a lake it's possible the water rises enough to affect your build during storms.

No, you can't necessarily get a roof over everything early into a build but repairs cost nothing and take one swat with a hammer. If you focus on the roof first you can fill in everything else after and you won't have much of an issue with water damage. I just did a re-build of a base, made it about three times larger, and I did it in a pretty heavy rainstorm.
I had no major issues with degradation. There's no way they need to change or eliminate this game mechanic. It's fine the way it is.

It is possible that you have a bugged build. Is it happening with only one base or all your structures?

Did you accidentally swing near it? I have hit my structures enough times then forget it for 2 days and come back to have to repair 20 hits on my stuff i did myself.

I've been playing for about 100 hours now and at no time has "building decay" ever been any kind of concern

Most crap today is made from particle board, so rain absolutely warps it.
