removing food from the cook station
I am new to the game and only issue I am having is all my 'cookables' turn to coal. I cannot figure out how to take the food off once it is cooked. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Happy gaming!

When you hear sizzling sound, it means its cooked and you just target em and press E to pop em out and put new ones to cook. Just dont let them cook too long or it will turn to coal.

BTW, you can use the food turning to coal to your benefit later in the game.

Like Garrish wrote, there is a transition period where you will need coal, food will be the only way to get it. You can make 3-4 fires next to each other and place several meat cookers on top for easiness. I don´t recall this period being very long though, so don´t stock up on coal this way, just make what you absolutely have to.

If you loot 10 Cores at once there is no transition period.

But yes, if you cant find 10 making some Meatcoal is something you can do

Early game, you don't need to make any coal on purpose for your small coal needs, you should get enough just with all your cooking screw-ups.

Late game, when you have chests full of coal, and you turn multiple Lox meat into coal. That's the best coal; it should be saved for something special like making signs that remind you not to overcook your food.

My assumption was that they could figure out if and when to overcook their food, but give just enough info to point out that there was a possible benefit to come from their mistake in the future. I wasn't trying to encourage turning herds of pigs into coal for no reason.

Even with five we have perfect recycling, so you can just transform your oven back and forth as necessary.

Here's a tip:
You can place multiple spits on a fire. I like 3 because it's not too cluttered, but you can fit many more. When you unlock chairs, place one very close to your cook pit. When you hear the sizzle, you can activate the cooked food and it'll drop right into your inventory because you're close enough.

(if you do this and you catch on fire when you stand up, try rotating the chair and remember to exit from the safe side by strafing away to exit the chair.)
