Tying invasion spawns to boss kills is problematic for new players on established servers.
Hear me out here. I'm pretty progressed into this game - a couple of my friends have many, many hours into our current server.

But we've run into a problem. It seems invasions are tied to boss kills. So whenever we have friends trying to start up on our server to play with us, they start building their bases and exploring the lower level zones -- but before they ever have a chance to catch up, they find their hard work obliterated by invasions of 2 star trolls and swamp creatures showing up in the meadows.

This has turned off several friends thus far - they never get a chance to catch up to us in the same in-game world because mobs and invasions leveled to the progress of people who have played 80, 100+ hours on the same server are roadblocking players who just started a couple hours prior.

I think something about this needs to be altered - whether tying invasions to biome type, some kind of individual player power check. There is similar issue with the mobs increasing in power as days passed. while a few players may have 300 ingame days played, a new player wont. Its a big hurdle for them.

This game is the most fun with friends, but right now starting on a server late or progressing faster than your friends seems to screw over the entire group.

As anyone confirm HOW invasions are triggered to begin with? I've never been attacked when far away from my base, so I think it might be linked to being close to a bench or more likely your spawn point, which would be either the starting altar or your bed. So in theory, if I set my bed spawn point way out in the wilds, say a small hut 5 minutes away by foot from my actual base, then I'd never get attacked and only suffer the slight inconvenience of a small walk back to base in the event that I died? Wouldn't that negate invasions entirely?
Every invasion I've had so far has triggered at the start of the day, targeting my workbench.

Apparently the people having problems with troll spawn have never had to survive 5 raptor deaths, a giga death, and a tyrannosaurus death in the first hour of play. Then really start to catch on to be wiped out by sabre tooth and an argy.

@unini

I understand this point. I have a friend and he just started and I am already at the third boss. What we did was we started a new server but we went step by step and started over. If you do not want to start over then bring over some things and then the server would be started with the first boss instead of the third and you can help him/them with surviving for the first time. When they are then geared and know the game you can continue in your current world or go back to the old world...

The only way to fix it is have Invasions be Character based not server based and have progression be linked to the Character not the server. So that if you have killed Eikythr (sp) your character gets a notch. However that would mean workbenches would have to belong to you. Which I don't know that they do right now? I've not played multiplayer yet. So if Workbenches are already Character tied then it isn't a ton of work to adjust.

ie 3 people start Person 1 kills the first two bosses, Person 2 the first and Person 3 none.

Person 1's Character with have a data entry (just like unlocking gear) that they have killed two bosses and as such if one of their benches is the target of the attack it will be appropriate to that. But if Person 3 is targeted it would only be a forest critter attack.

I don't know if I'd change Trolls though. It seems like a little bit of chaos is good. lol But you could do the same with Trolls that they won't chance if you personally haven't killed two.

I'd prefer the raid threat to be tied to the biome too.

I didn't build defenses around my first base in the meadows at all because I didn't need to at the time and assumed that it would stay this way for the meadows.

I really don't want to be forced to crank up the defenses around bases in easy biomes because I keep progressing into difficult biomes. That's just not fun.

Let me keep my open farmhouse in the meadows.

Now here is a question for you what if you have multiple people of different bosses all working on a community village what would happen then....Just something to think on.

This game is not setup like minecraft. People just starting out should start a fresh map otherwise they'll unlock recipes and abilities too early. The game has no Factions or groups for progression it's server wide.

Invasions on your base is tied to how much ♥♥♥♥ you have built I'm pretty sure.

Playing solo I never see anything because I tend to build really small. Playing on an established server: they were getting raided all of the time, but I never was with my small hut. It wasn't until I started making a camp of it and putting down additional structures and walls that I started getting raided.

I think people are making assumptions about how that system works so that they can complain about it.

I think how it works is, the longer you stay in a base to build, farm, ahng out, whatever, the higher the chance of a raid becomes.

I had 2 swamp awakenings in my standard size meadows camp just for not going out & exploring but planting carrots instead... also got raided a couple of times in a bigger base just for staying and building. When I'm mobile, exploring further out, jut making a minimal camp at night, nothing ever happened to me yet.

I've had invasions occur on the small outpost with a bed and chest where I park my boat in the swamps. Me and a friend had just arrived to do some iron mining and had barely set the place up. I think if it's tied to bases it's spawn point, not workbench. But I could believe it's purely player location and doesn't have anything to do with bases.

This. It picks players at random to spawn raids at. Has nothing to do with the structures itself.

Raids can happen even before killing any bosses at all. In that case, Eikthyr sends forest animals to attack your location.

What kind of dumbass tries starting that far north?

Regardless, poor design on Ark's part doesn't justify poor design here.

Again, I built a tiny shack on joining a server and the next morning got raided.

That happens on exactly day 14 iirc, though a handful of necks isn't the same starting out as dwarves or trolls.

Then honestly people should not worry about restarting a server and wiping if you want to play with friends or people should leave a base in the meadows that is well defended for new arrivals.

It is a survival game restarting isn't that big a deal to me. As for the OP's situation, if they don't want to be carried then they need to accept the threat it isn't carrying if you help them build a base that can actually defend against an attack. Even if all the internals are basic.

I take it you're assuming starting on the Island which is fairly boring. But for that matter so would starting in the south. Ark's good design justifies a good design here. If people ain't dying it ain't survival it's just living.
