If you don't want to spend time breeding boars, you will have to spend time hunting them later in the game. This is made easier in later game play with portals and increased stamina that lets you cover more ground faster.
A tip I learned, is to never toss or leave behind boar meat in early game. I use deer meat as soon as I can, but never pass on the boar meat. Hoard to stuff for later.
After the swamps you will graduate to higher foods that don't require boar meat, but it would be good if you could still have it for medium strength foods for just hanging out.
Interesting idea, thanks.
Oh the runestones? I thought it was only one time thing. I'll look around and mark them, thanks!
I did have a breeding pen but a troll destroyed it and all my boars :D So I'm getting new boars but I still need some boar meat right now.
Good to know
You can also save the boar meat. Run on grilled neck tail, cooked deer meat, and honey and save up the boar meat until you unlock the later recipes that require boar meat.
If you haven't yet killed the first boss crank raids up to max and the game will send food to you. That's all the first raid is, wild boars and neck.
In the current play through with my wife we've just found Haldor, just killed the Elder, and just found our first turnips.

The edge of the lodge to the right, in the distance from left to right you can see the seed shack, barn, and garden.

Closer view that also shows the apiary to the right (the base is spawn proofed, work benches are hidden in the roofs of buildings and other base structures that prevent spawns are hidden from view).

The interior of the barn. We've found a 1 star boar and got it here. Tamed it and a no star, and once we had 4, 1 star boars culled all the no star boars. When we find a 2 star boar we'll lure it here and the mini-pen I'm standing in (we use shutters as mini-gates) will allow me to get the 2 star in and me back out plus I can throw food 3 directions from here and make sure all the boars get fed.
All of it is a matter of taking the time to find resources and build. We are all ready up to day 140 on this play through and are just starting to look for iron. We are usually faster than that but it took longer than usual to find Haldor.
Build two small pens, find a boar you want to tame, provoke it to attack you. Lead it to your pen, close the pen while you are there. Do it second time, now they are both closed in, you can freely build some bigger enclosure around them. I just did some crafting station in the middle(protected with stakes) and more stakes around so they can roam and be safe. Make sure there is no fire nearby(they are scared of fire) release them into bigger enclosure and throw 10 carrots/berries in. You shouldn't be far but also not too close so they don't notice you, and after they will stop rampaging around the taming process will start.
I ended up with something like this, little empty now, since I wasn't breeding them for a while.
