How do I get a lot of boar meat?
If I want, like, a stack of it, is my best bet to just hunt for them in meadows? Taming is decent for some steady surplus but almost all good swamp recipes require boar meat and I ran out of.

Get a couple tamed so you can start breeding more, but general hunting gets the job done, too. Could change the world modifier for increased drops while you hunt, then drop it back to whatever you like afterwards.

Early game you want to mark all of the stones around your Meadows that spawn several boars around them. After several in game days (better if you travel far away and return) More boars will spawn in these areas.
If you don't want to spend time breeding boars, you will have to spend time hunting them later in the game. This is made easier in later game play with portals and increased stamina that lets you cover more ground faster.
A tip I learned, is to never toss or leave behind boar meat in early game. I use deer meat as soon as I can, but never pass on the boar meat. Hoard to stuff for later.
After the swamps you will graduate to higher foods that don't require boar meat, but it would be good if you could still have it for medium strength foods for just hanging out.

Interesting idea, thanks.

Oh the runestones? I thought it was only one time thing. I'll look around and mark them, thanks!

I did have a breeding pen but a troll destroyed it and all my boars :D So I'm getting new boars but I still need some boar meat right now.

Good to know

Find a 2 star boar and breed it. Only need one two star. Two stars will randomly give you another two star if the other isn't and then you're good. Cull the other non 2 stars and now you have a 2 star boar farm

Rune stones have a few one time spawns but there is usually a permanent spawn point there as well. Abandoned farms also usually have a boar spawn point. Any place that has neither of these features that has boars also has a nearby associated spawn point so when you find them mark them on your minimap. Berries on bushes (but not the bushes themselves) and boars respawn every 3 game days (also deer, birds, and neck plus other creatures in other biomes). Every 3 days you can run from marked point to marked point and harvest things. Bring the berries back and feed them to your tamed boars.

You can also save the boar meat. Run on grilled neck tail, cooked deer meat, and honey and save up the boar meat until you unlock the later recipes that require boar meat.

If you haven't yet killed the first boss crank raids up to max and the game will send food to you. That's all the first raid is, wild boars and neck.

Lol how about I find a girlfriend while I'm at it? I think I saw a 1* boar like twice.

You will pretty much have to hoof it, and kill boars while exploring the lands. That's how I do it. Helps if you're on a larger continent instead of some itty-bitty islands, though.

I'm on iron age, prepping for Bonemass

Id find an abandoned hoarders castle near main spawn and take the meat from there. No mercy for getting lags because some dude decided to leave that there.

I married a gamer girl so its possible. Boars are only found in the meadows so wander around and mark all spots you find boars and other gatherables. Starred boars only appear a certain distance from the start stones. You can build a huge barn using corewood beams as supports. My usual will hold 40 boars. You can cull half of them every 3 days, feed the rest, and 3 days later you'll be back up to 40 boars. This will give you sufficient boar meat even with 0 star boars.

In the current play through with my wife we've just found Haldor, just killed the Elder, and just found our first turnips.

The edge of the lodge to the right, in the distance from left to right you can see the seed shack, barn, and garden.

Closer view that also shows the apiary to the right (the base is spawn proofed, work benches are hidden in the roofs of buildings and other base structures that prevent spawns are hidden from view).

The interior of the barn. We've found a 1 star boar and got it here. Tamed it and a no star, and once we had 4, 1 star boars culled all the no star boars. When we find a 2 star boar we'll lure it here and the mini-pen I'm standing in (we use shutters as mini-gates) will allow me to get the 2 star in and me back out plus I can throw food 3 directions from here and make sure all the boars get fed.

All of it is a matter of taking the time to find resources and build. We are all ready up to day 140 on this play through and are just starting to look for iron. We are usually faster than that but it took longer than usual to find Haldor.

That explains why I have only seen 1-star boars at similar spot, quite far away from the base. How is the 40 boar trick supposed to work without mods since boar mating checks for 5 boars within 10 tiles?

Taming is probably the biggest thing I can't get my head around at this point. From what I understand, I'm supposed to build a pen around a wild creature somehow without it noticing me, and then throw food at it for thirty minutes also without it noticing me? I really hope after I tame it it follows me or something because otherwise trying to get two critters tamed at the same time and the same place seems like a real headache...

Build two small pens, find a boar you want to tame, provoke it to attack you. Lead it to your pen, close the pen while you are there. Do it second time, now they are both closed in, you can freely build some bigger enclosure around them. I just did some crafting station in the middle(protected with stakes) and more stakes around so they can roam and be safe. Make sure there is no fire nearby(they are scared of fire) release them into bigger enclosure and throw 10 carrots/berries in. You shouldn't be far but also not too close so they don't notice you, and after they will stop rampaging around the taming process will start.

I ended up with something like this, little empty now, since I wasn't breeding them for a while.

Truth be told I'm looking for an excuse to procrastinate fighting that swamp boss, heh. The first two bosses were pretty simple but I got a bad feeling about this one. Because finding scrap is so much more difficult than previous ingredients for gear, if I end up dying I'll be in a tough spot. Plus the location of the boss is right in the middle of a huge swamp so not really feasible to try zipping in safely to grab gear off my corpse.
