Poor Preformance due to Laptop?
I am running a Alienware 15 R3 with i7-7700HQ with 32 gigs of ram and a Nivida Gefoece GTX 1060. I am currently have everything turned down and still run 4-15 FPS. it looks to be barely using 30% of the graphics card and only about 50% ram and CPU....

I can play GTA5 with no issues, but not this game? is there something i'm missing???

If you search around there are a bunch of things you can do to bump performance. It doesn't sound like you are getting optimal performance.

FWIW I'm running an i5 , 16gigs ram, and a 940mx, and I get better performance. (usually 17-22 with max draw distance, but it does dip under heavy load) (also none of the optimizations I have found dramatically changed this)

* Edit : video card has 2 gigs ram , i think this is a bottleneck

Im using a laptop with I5 8300H and a GTX1050Ti and the game runs perfect. Try changing the settings.

What's your secret, because I play on i7, 1060 (6gb), 16 GB ram laptop at 720p, everything on low or off, and the game runs like crap. Any extra info on how to make the game run perfectly would be very much appreciated.

make sure drivers are up to date helps a ton but i run amd and amd graphics game has poor performance also use nvidias settings i found using my amd redeon software for game settings helped more then the in game settings so override where you can thats what i did got a bunch more FPS

Sounds like it´s running the graphics from the CPU instead of the graphics card.

Yea thats strange. Regnrock has the right idea, check to see if the laptop is using the igpu or the 1060.

Try go in to Steam>Valheim>Properties>Disable Steam Overlay>Disable VR Theatre

See if that helps.

Also add -force-vulkan to your launch options. I have a 1650 or something like that in my laptop (usually play on my desktop), and it helped a LOT.

i have tried Vulkan and it runs even worse (2-4 fps even in the loading screen)

So i actually just tried some settings I found a while ago and they did give me a slight bump:

Edit the bootconfig file with the first 2 lines being :

gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1

edit the launch parameter in Steam to include :

-window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

*Edit : Went from 17-22 to 19-33 (also turned off steam overlay and VR)

I don't see it mentioned anywhere but are you running Vsync? If so try disabling it.

**Update**

Edited the bootconfig file with the first 2 lines being :

gfx-enable-gfx-jobs=1
gfx-enable-native-gfx-jobs=1

edited the launch parameter in Steam to include :

-window-mode exclusive -screen-fullscreen

updated geforce driver (they just released one).

used the gefore optimazation.

was getting 30+ fps for awhile until i was running through black forest. had pretty hard drops there, but much better. will tweak some of the detail settings and see if i can smooth those areas out.

Thanks again all for the help.
