Housing food decorations

You can do that now, with item stands.

It seems like the one that stands upright doesn't work with food, but the item stand that sits down works, a lot of people have used that one to prop up their yellow mushrooms to make a lamp of sorts.

Yeah I've got food and potion bottles on stands on all of my tables as well as setting in window frames

Yep, doesn't work with everything but you can use it on meads, foods, etc.

Potion bottles, bowls, bread, blueberry's look the best imo. Old tools and weapons arrayed on tables look great as well.
