Scythe and the Farming Update
Hey guys, I'm partially happy with the update. It was high time that farming got some improvements.
However, I noticed that the scythe cannot be used on plants in the Mistlands. Why? It doesn't make sense to me. Additionally, you have improved harvesting but left planting as it was.
I hope you improve the whole thing a bit. The MassFarming mod makes the whole thing a bit better than the new update.

For QOL sake the repetitive clicking when it comes to farming is one of my main gripes in the game. I have a good sized barley field, meadows farm and ML farm and its a real carpal tunnel pain and very tedious to plant them all.
I dont see any benefit at all to the scythe and I use an ategir to harvest the barley.
Haven't tired the scythe on anything else.
I do appreciate the shift click x5 craft and the larger stacks of flour.

I'm not the type to use a bunch of mods, but farming in this game is way to tedious. I highly recommend you give the "Mass Farming" mod a try. You won't look back.

You probably know this...........Doesnt help much with planting but when harvesting you do not need to click. Just hold the button down and run around.

The Farming Skill only levels up based on each individual planting or harvesting action, so the scythe directly opposes the skill that was added in the same patch.

Getting to the point where I need to start farming makes me quit playing every single time.

Try a no build cost playthrough. Farming is way easier. They only last 40-50 hours and can be a blast.

why cant the scythe be built if you have all the mats for it?

It's a silver grade item, is your forge fully leveled up?

The fact that scythe is not unlocked ealier is stupid choice.
It should have been a normal unlock on 3 tier of forge or something.

I think it would be great if we had more variations of the scythe. With a difference in speed or durability maybe. So we could start wit an iron scythe, or even one made of copper, in case we find the witch before our first crypt.

Edit:
On the other hand.... harvesting vegetables that grow under ground (carrots, turnips, onions) with a scythe does not seem to be quite realistic......

Scythe should be unlocked bit earlier, you can get handle from swamp and finally use it after finding silver from mountains. You can use scythe for a little while for farming before entering plains and mistland, plain crops can be harvested with sweeping weapons so scythe is redundant, mistland crops give more per harvest so you don't need to farm them so much and when finally getting to ashlands you don't have crop that needs scythe at all. Most tedious part of farming is done between dark forest, swamp and mountains and scythe only helps with collecting, not planting crops. I think scythe crafting should be available from swamp, make silver requirement to iron. Let farming be a bit tedious from dark forest just letting us hand pick carrots and then make it a bit less tedious by giving us scythe for swamp and so on. If you are planning on keeping crop planting as same as it is now.

Just curious. I of course farm as needed, but unless I am playing as a mage (and thus need all those mushrooms) I really don't need to farm the large quantities the above posts allude to.

How much do you really need or are you farming for an entire server?

Ideally I want to farm enough in one go that I never need to farm that particular plant ever again. That should save me the most time in the long run because It's much more efficient to plant one large field than a small field multiple times, Maybe I err on the side of caution a bit when estimating how much is enough forever.

If you want an exact amount, I usually stop when my Cultivator (max level) breaks while planting one seed crop. Although Barley ended up requiring a lot more. That's solo.

That said, I'm also the only one apparently arguing not to use the Scythe at all, because it stunts your Farming skill growth.
