Mistlands is bad and not fun
There is no progression possible in this zone, mistlands has very bad geography, you're constantly out of stamina trying to jump-climp. The stupid wisp is totally useless and defeats the benefit having defeated the boss from the plains.
Enemies I can learn to get better at defeating them but the zone itself, it's really annoying.
I tried mistlands when it came out, stopped playing altogether, tried it now again with more preparation and it's still terrible.
I don't want to cheat and disable the mist with mods. The game should be playable by default.

It is playable by default. I am busy playing on default for the third time. If you find it unplayable it is perhaps a problem you need help with?

I can't stand the mist, its nothing but frustrating.

In game:
hit F5
type devcommands
hit enter
type Forcedelete 50 mistarea
It will pull a big area of mist away but won't remove it all at once, you can use it when you get to mist lands or have one boat rider spam it in a boat while you drive through mistlands.
Gonna experiment with it a bit more but its a quick way to fix mistlands without mods

I agree it´s awful.

I was already annoyed by the way too frequent and overly excessive fog everywhere and especially plains but Mistlands pushed it beyond the point where I asked myself why am I even playing this anymore?

So I stopped playing the game. Too many good games out there too waste your time on this feature empty game that just hides it´s lack of content with insane grind and deliberate gamedesign to annoy the player.

Yeah. First time getting to the mistlands is a bit like getting to the swamp for the first time. You will get used to it after a few frustrating situations, keep in mind that the slime bombs come in useful when scouting the infected mines, as they can kill the enemies even behind obstacles... this might give you some room to breathe. Also the difficulty scales a lot more once you get to the next biome. Staying with the 'being in the swamp for the first time' analogy, going to the ashlands for the first time will feel like skipping the mountain biome right into the plains. So be warned.

I don't berate you on not liking this biome, since everyone plays the game differently. What one person might consider fun can be a chore for someone else. Try to figure out some strategies to tackle the mistlands by watching one or two vids or by reading some of the comments that aren't just 'git gud', give it a try and if it doesn't work out... just ditch it and do something else. It is normal to just lay a game aside and have a break. After all you are meant to have fun, not force yourself due to peer preassure... otherwhise there would be no point of you playing Valheim to beginn with.

So in short: Get a cup of tea, play/ do something else for two or three days, have a look at the useful comments and try again. If all fails play something else. You can't force yourself to have fun and there is no wrong way of playing the game... unless you are a game journalist that is.^^

I hated the mistlands at first. For the lack of visibility as you say, but now it might be one of my favorite zones, especially once getting the feather cloak.

The trick is to use your EARS, you can hear the monsters from further away then they will aggro you.

The bugs are weak on their back half. The Gjalls are trivialized by popping a fire mead. Do a dodge roll to get the ticks off you.

My biggest frustrations with mistlands are probably:

1) Why do we have to kill these cool neutral NPCs to progress? Why can't we barter with them for the sap extractor?

2) Why are these rabbits able to push you around?

3) Black Core Distribution: Why did the first five dungeons I clear have ONE collective core, while the last two had SEVEN in EACH?

I also wish I didn't have to kill Dvergr. I never do it intentionally, just accidentally through some aoe effect intended for a nasty bug or beetle.
Used carts to destroy the wards.
I also wish they self healed. Early on, I'd drag bugs back if I needed help and they were quick to assist, but eventually they just got worn down. If they do regenerate, it's extremely slow.

Plains is easy mode. That's probably why.

At least you've found a dungeon, heh. Mistlands are doable even for someone like me, but you gotta be super conservative. I'd actually be totally fine with the mist if the terrain weren't so unforgiving. It makes the mountains look like the meadows. I'm terrified of falling into some stupid crevice and, worse than dying, just ending up stuck there forever. To say nothing of sliding into the ocean and getting wrecked that way. As you say there are ways to deal with the monsters, but those ways are not so much recommended as mandatory.

I second the disappointment at being forced to confront the npcs. Not as if Valheim is overflowing with friendly faces after all.

The third one really annoys me... Everytime I see some Youtuber stream their journey through the mistlands. They always seem to luck out and get something like 5 or more cores in one mine, whereas I'm stuck with only one or two after having cleared three or more of those infested mines. :|

Like iron crypts, getting the thing you want might not be guranteed due to generation RNG
i literally have a crypt with zero iron, just 2 hallways to dead ends, and a blocked staircase

I've seen some disappointing crypts but never that bad, yikes. Those sorts of instances are extremely rare based on my experience, while underwhelming mines appear to be much more frequent. Plus crypts you can at least find, with the torches making them highly visible even from a distance. A mine? Not so much. Plus iron has multiple sources aside from crypts. If you're lucky you can get it as a monster drop. To the best of my knowledge cores are exclusive to mines.

Yeah I'm aware of that. It's just a matter of bad luck. It happens.^^

My best crypt was just the entrance... as in only the entrance of the crypt blocked in all directions.^^

Hate to hear what your worst one was, if that was the best one.
