Im so done lol
Random attacks on my boar corral for the Nth time and they finally broke free. I dont care anymore. The game obviously dont want me to have it so thats fine. I thought it was a neat thing to just have, I didnt kill any of the boars but now I just dont care anymore.

Good job game, you won.

Things that happen nine times in a row, are hardly random. The game may be trying to tell you something.

Build a wall or dig a moat. Valheim.is a hostile environment.

Were you using the stake walls? Repairing them when you were near them? Or even using base defenses in the area to keep the boars safe? Some people keep them in their basement, i personally have an area, where they breed drop down, and don't have an issue with them being attacked, because nothing spawns near them. When i play with raids on, i use an area, away from my base for breeding, i have a different area for Lox, Boars, and Chickens, as i need the supplies i just do stuff in the area, so i don't really worry about the time to breed part. There are lots of ways to keep your breeding areas secure, but maybe a better player then me can give you much better advice.

Uh how is having a building for breeding "ugly"? I mean, if you build it that way, then i guess.

those are meant for breeding pens, the Spiked walls, are stronger then the little twigs that btw are ugly when used as a pen, and the traps, or spike traps are an added line of defense for the pen. I mean, i can see why you lost your breeding pen, you took zero steps to even keep it safe.

Who says that defences has to be ugly? Build something that isnt. Npcs are dumb. Theyre only executing linear scripts - why are you losing to it? Simple: you dont want to fight all that. Think about playing with passive mode enabled. Npcs wont attack you.

Its easy to protect things. Just raise the earth using stones and the hoe around your base.

Bonus, you can even use stone structures to make the raised earth look good.

Or. Let the poor boars be free.

No way, my boar pit will continue to be an overcrowded fps destroying, inhumane mess, then, i will go in and cull the numbers, and have lots of food for my wolfies.

I don't like spikes either so put tames under my base where nothing can get to them. Not difficult to do. Start with the pen(s), then build your base on top.

I lost all my wolves due "a cold wind from the mountains"-event to drakes. Since then I built a stone fortress where they live and breed in the basement. The game makes you always learn the hard way. The good thing is that the nature of the game will never react to your adaptations.

yeah i'm a big fan of earth wall, and moats, if you really want to make it look nice you can do layered wall and plant trees on the layers, and use cultivator to paste grass make the terraforming look more natural. retain as much of the natural bushes and stones in your wall/moat also. I've actually made my earth walls cat walks, I've done catwalks on corewood stilts with my wall+moat, I've done double moats, 3 layered walls, all kinds of stuff is possible. moats give you an excuse to build a cool bridge entrance for your place also. if you make a earth wall or a moat, aprox 4m deep/high is good to start, and then if you want to make it future safe, raise that to maybe 6+m eventually.

this was one of my favorite moats I've ever made https://streamable.com/cjl1mp

I feel ya. Myself and most the friends I play with also prefer aesthetics. "Safety is number 1 priority" is not a mantra we live by in Valheim. It feels so much more alive when a raid or random patrol destroys something during the fight and we have to rebuild it. All farms are with the low half fences, no spawn proofing, and unless we are playing nomap we do not use hoes on the server. On nomap it is only used for road making.

If I/we need to take a day and tame some more boars/wolves/lox, or try and get them back into their broken corral, or rebuid half the base from a raid, it is still playing. A chance to add more aesthetics with the rebuild, like a flowerbed or a covered food trough is our first thought after damage.

Like esbenmf said, Valheim is a hostile environment and that is why we like it. Removing the hostility at home never felt very viking to us. This is our preference and everyone has their own. Fun is subjective so this post is not to belittle others in the thread with their suggestions on how to make things safer.

"Good job game, you won."

Valheim won the battle this time, but it will only win the war if you give up! Rebuild and expect it to happen again.........
