Pick up filters and carts.
Seriously tho I' so tired of picking up garbage all the time. I dont want no resin, I dont want no eyes, I dont want your 5 wood ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I got attacked by the forest on a new save. I died. No biggie, I'm right there. But before I could get my items back, I have picked up a bunch of ♥♥♥♥ off the ground and couldnt get my stuff instantly. So I died again. And again. So ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ infuriating.....

Second point is the carts are kinda ass. Only improvement it needs is let me fix it outside of workbench. That thing takes 3x10 damage because i rolled over a shrub.... bro.....

Just turn off auto-pickup, default is 'V' key.

yes, there should be pickup filters. i am a spear player and being able to auto pickup a throw spear, but only the spear, would be a great toggle. "combat mode," "body recovery mode," etc. different presets to be customized by the player.

toggling all pickup on/off is not a good solution.
Well the carts seem pretty robust to me. I have on multiple occasions seen one go over the side of a mountain while loaded to the brim with silver, slide hundreds of feet to the rocks below and roll away, damaged but functional.

I agree about the spears. Until the devs do something about it I'm using the Loyal Spear mod.

I didn't ever toggle off auto pickup until Ashlands. Though as a general rule, once portal is unlocked, I always keep a blank portal at the base, and take materials for a portal with me. Whenever my inventory is full, I build the workbench and portal and dump my stuff at home, go back and tear it down and move on. This way I rarely die with a full inventory, and rarely leave stuff on the ground. Single player anyway.

When carting, I tend to have my axe in hand and chop whatever is in my way. Again, portal back to unload excess materials.

Filters would help a lot. There really ought to be a some kind of middle ground between picking up everything and picking up nothing. Having to mess around with inventory so much when there could be a better way detracts from actually playing and enjoying the game.

A filter would have to list every currently known (to character) pickup-able item in the game with a checkbox for pickup or not. Early in the game it wouldn't be so bad, by the time you hit Mistlands it would be a list so long as to be near unusable.

solution is to have the filter operate off lists that you can expand, perhaps based off tool used to farm them for ease of use

block all axe-farmed materials (woods, seeds) as a general option with the option to expand that into a more specific list so you could only filter to only pick up Fine Wood, for example

minimizes the clutter for when you just want to turn off a lot of stuff but still lets you get super specific for when you're targeting certain materials

I would definitely love to see a filter for picking up items. If you think it is a pain at low levels it gets worse in Ashlands when you get spammed with heavy items because many mobs can destroy trees, terrain, and buildings quickly.

Carts are easy, just build a road for them.
