Valheim

Why is Workbench needed every 10 meters?
This is just silly mechanic. Am i missing something, is there a work around this issue?

I can't build anything outside of workbench circle.

just destroy and rebuild the workbench(s) where you need them when building.

Build workbench, build, destroy workbench, pick up mats, move to new area, rebuild workbench, build continue on

Yeaa its funny to rebuild 3-4 Workstations all 20 meters ^^

Yeah, hopefully they will increase the range every time you upgrade a workbench.

To limit building as large groups of structures degrade performance of the game. Maybe it will change down the road if they can improve the building system performance issues.

I
The workbench requirement is probably a placeholder for something wrll get further along in the game development. It seems silly but it's not really a problem.

I'd like to see something like certain structures adding to our base boundary, such as foundation supports, crafting stations, wards, etc.

it would be cool if u can have tool chest or so with you ,let it weight alot or i dunno use resourcess but those workbenches are pain and are exploited to block mobs spawns .

Btw with the mod Valheim+ (from nexus) you can raise the range

Your solution is in thoughtful base layout.

My friend and I tend to make some kind of a village, with different buildings serving different purpose. We have our central building, where we sleep, cook our meat and have our initial workbench. A bit further, we have our forge, with a workbench also. After all, it's a forge, so it is pretty logic to have a workbench also. On the other side on our main building, this is our harbor, with a deck and a little shed with another workbench. Ship need maintenance, so a workbench in the harbor fit in. Further outside our wall, we have our farm, which have some kind of a barn in the middle, with a workbench of course, and our boars enclosure and different crop all around. In every farm in the world, you'll find in a corner a bench with some tools.

If you plan carefully your base, you build different buildings for different purpose, just so that each workbench radius slightly overlap. That way, you got a pretty big village, all cover up with workbench while still making sense thematically.

I got a Longhouse where half is a sort of tavern whit a open pit fire in the middle and tables and chairs around. whit a "bar desk" at the middel point blocking of the other half that is a kitchen. I need at least two Workbenches to cover the whole area. Im lucky my starter house is located right next to it and its workbence overlaps just. to cover the eating area. but for the kitchen I have no saving grace.
maybe if there was diffrent size and skin on the workbence then we can talk. but the current workbence dont fit inside the kitchen in a good way.
got the same problem whit my "palisad wall" I had the stupid ide to build a watch tower over the workbence but that sort of looks at part odd.

Whilst true, that still does not answer his question as to why the base game is that way.

Now we are just getting into silly territory. Sigh.
Zack Wester Mar 16, 2021 @ 11:09am
still does not prevent the player from building a super long building that streches around the world. just makes it minicurly more anoying. its worse for thoes that are making a smallish sized viking town. especially if you need to find way to hide/camoflage the workbences becuase they dont fit everywhere.
TheyCallMeDende Mar 16, 2021 @ 11:18am
hopefully they add the option to craft an advanced workbench that expands the radius of how far we can build from it.

Congratulations, you just described the EXACT suck that inspired this thread. Only you think it's a solution and not a problem, so I guess that is what we get when everybody is a winner.
